Cleveland Indians vs Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins are set to close out a quick 2 game home series with the Cleveland Indians in what appears to be the battle for 1st place in the AL Central. Both teams look to return to the postseason in 2018, but this years path will be a lot harder with the abundance of good American League teams.

Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :

Lack Of Getting On Base Hurting Indians

The Cleveland Indians are suppose to be the best team in the AL Central by a mile, but in the early going of 2018 that has not been the case as they are struggling to win games due to the lack of getting on base. One of the things that might surprise baseball fans is the fact that the Indians currently have 5 starters batting under .200 in the early going of the season. Jose Ramirez and Edwin Encarnacion are one of the deadliest 3-4 power hitters in any lineup this year, and they have shown just that in 2018 as they have combined for 6 HRs and 11 RBIs. The one problem with these two guys is the lack of getting on base as other than the 3 HRs a piece they have only gotten on base via hit 9 other times. The first 4 pitchers in the Indians starting rotation have gotten off to a good start as they have been the main piece in allowing the Indians to win games. Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, and Mike Clevinger have combined for a record of 6-2 with an ERA of 2.5 in the early going of 2018. The Indians have also had a solid 1-2 punch in their bullpen as setup man Andrew Miller has been dealing in the 6 innings he has appeared in as he has not given up a run. The Indians don’t have the worse problem in the world as they have a lineup who is very capable of hitting the ball, and I believe the slump will end sooner rather than later.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

Winning Ways In Minnesota

Before last years playoff appearance the Minnesota Twins missed out on the playoffs for 6 consecutive seasons, but one of the only guys left from those playoff seasons in 2004, 2006, 2009, and 2010 is one of the most productive guys for the playoff hopeful Twins in 2018. The reliable 15 year veteran Joe Mauer has easily been one of the best players not only on the Twins, but in the MLB as he currently boost one of the best batting averages with a .412 and has also contributed 6 RBIs to complement his consistent bat. The next guy who has made Twins fans happy is leadoff hitter Brian Dozier who doesn’t only have a good OBP (.385), but leads the team in HRs with 4. The Twins are able to consistently get their 1-2 batters on base to give Miguel Sano base runners, and once Logan Morrison gets into the groove of things the Twins might prove to be a real threat. Logan Morrison has struggled in the early going of 2018 which is not what Twin fans want to see as the newly acquired 1B is batting .088 with only 2 RBIs. Morrison is coming off a career year in 2017 as he had 38 HRs, and as good as the Twins have been doing in the early going you want to see your new guy shine.

Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins

My reason for the pick :

Their has been a ton of buzz around the Minnesota locker room this year as they have potential to do big things, and this series is a big test to their contender status. Josh Tomlin has struggled at times this season while Berrios has been great, and with two teams who are even across the board the pitching advantage is what wins them the game. Minnesota closes the series with a W.
