Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres are set top open up another home series against a division rival as this time they host the Los Angeles Dodgers. The San Diego Padres started the year as expected, but they have strung a couple of wins together down the stretch. The Dodgers have been awful in the early going and sit in dead last in the NL West.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
Last Place LA Dodgers?
The Los Angeles are less than a year removed from losing in the World Series (4-3) and a 104 win season, but here we are entering this series and the Dodgers sit in dead last behind the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers boost a similar lineup to what they had last year minus a couple of guys, but nothing to be worried about or in this case be in last place, so what is going wrong? Two of the Dodgers starters who are coming off really good 2017 campaigns cant seem to find themselves this year as Rich Hill and Alex Wood have struggled. In 2017 Alex Wood was remarkable as he posted a record of 16-3 with a 2.72 ERA as he had a career year, but in 2018 Wood is 0-2 already almost overlapping last years loses as well as double the ERA with a 5.09. Rich Hill on the other hand had a good 2017 campaign as well as he went 12-8 with a 3.38 ERA which was one of his better years in his 14 year career, but in 2018 he has been bad as he is posting a record of 1-1, but even worse has a 6.00 ERA. The Dodgers will also need to control guys out of the bullpen like Wilmer Fonts who has been seeing a lot of time in the early going (9.1 innings), but has given up 13 earned runs. The Dodgers still have plenty of time to turn things around and climb back up the standings, but they should start sooner rather than later.
San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :
Young Guys Showing Hope
If I was to tell you that the San Diego Padres would be higher in the standings than the LA Dodgers after 2 weeks you would call for a doctor, but it is true this year as the Padres sit in 4th place, and LA sits below them in 5th. It is no secret that the San Diego Padres have been trying to rebuild their roster as they have now missed out on the playoffs the last 11 seasons, and although they won’t make the postseason in 2018 they have found some core guys who will be around for years to come. The Padres have a couple of pitchers who have been solid in their first year as a pro as SP Joey Lucchesi, RP Adam Cimber, and RP Kazuhisa Makita have all pitched lights out in the early going. Lucchessi has started in 3 games totaling 15.2 innings as he post a 1-0 record with a 1.72 ERA which are solid numbers for a rookie. Relievers Adam Cimber and Kazuhisa Makita have been able to come out of the pen as well and keep opponents in check as the combination of the two totals 15.1 innings, but remarkably only have given up 3 earned runs within those innings. From the batters box 3B Christian Villanueva has been their best power hitter as he leads the team with 4 HRs and has contributed another 8 RBIs.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers
My reason for the pick :
The Dodgers have to turn it around eventually especially the sure handed Alex Wood, and what a perfect opportunity they have here as they get to go against another sluggish pitcher in Bryan Mitchell. Alex Wood was one of the most dependable guys in the rotation this year, and I have no doubt that he will figure it out this season so I will take him to start turning the tide and win this game.
