Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Texas Rangers vs Tampa Bay Rays
The Tampa Bay Rays are set to close out their 2nd straight home series as they will host another one after they complete the 3rd game against the Texas Rangers in an American League clash. Tampa has been awful after letting their 2017 3rd place team all walk in free agency or via trade. Texas has dealt with injuries all year and have not looked as good as expected.
Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
The Texas Rangers were suppose to be a sleeper team in the AL West, but a slow start thanks to injuries has halted the Rangers making any progress from their 78 win season in 2017. The Texas Rangers may have started to find their footing though after their latest series against the defending World Series Champions as they were able to take 2 out of the 3 games in Houston. Game 3 was a remarkable game as the Rangers had the oldest guy in the MLB pitch into the 8th inning holding a no hitter. Bartolo Colon has been one of the best pitchers this year on the Rangers rosters as he has been bouncing back and forth from the bullpen to the starting rotation, but in his 18.2 innings of work he is only responsible for 3 earned runs which has his ERA at a 1.45. The Rangers are also happy with the hitting from Robinson Chirinos in the 4/15 matchup as he might be back on the right track after a 2 for 3 game where he was responsible for every run as he had 3 RBIs. Chirinos has had a bad start to the 2018 season as he is batting .182 with 19 strikeouts, but this game might of been exactly what Chirinos needed to revive his season. The Rangers have potential to be good even with the injuries and will need to continue winning games during the early slate if they want to make a run at any playoff birth.
Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :
New Era in Tampa
The Tampa Bay Rays have not had a winning record since their latest playoff appearance which dates back to 2013, and that has led to the Rays blowing up their team and trying again. The Tampa Bay Rays currently have 4 guys in their starting lineup who are batting under .200 which is not the way to go about winning games especially when you don’t field a good roster as it is. One of those 4 guys was brought in to try and make up for the loss of the 2017 production as 12 year veteran Carlos Gomez came to Tampa via free agency. Gomez has not lived up to expectations though as he currently is batting .175 and leading the team in strikeouts with 21. Another guy that was brought in this offseason to try and make up for the missed production is 5 year veteran C.J. Cron who is 3rd on the team in strikeouts with 17. On the pitching side of things the Rays ace has been awful this year as 2x all-star Chris Archer has an ERA of 7.84 which is more than double of his career ERA of 3.72. The Tampa Bay Rays attempted to make moves this offseason to try and replace some of the talent from the 2017 team, but in the early going it has back fired as the Rays have been awful.

Texas and Tampa both rank in the bottom 10 in team ERA.
Against The Spread Selection: Texas Rangers
My reason for the pick :
Like I said the Texas Rangers look like they might of turned the page on their slow start after a good series in Houston. The Rangers are also pitching a well established pitcher in the league as Cole Hamels is looking to get his season back on track, and this is the ideal game for him to do that. Faria has also been awful this year and I just cant trust him to pitch good. Texas wins on the road.
