Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers

As the Milwaukee Brewers wrap up a home series against the last place team in the NL Central (Reds) they get to host another last place team as this time they host the Miami Marlins. This is the perfect opportunity for the Brewers to make up some ground in a deep NL Central as every division game will be tough down the stretch.

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

Inconsistent Young Guys

The Miami Marlins field as young as a team as any other MLB team this season after letting most of their seasoned veterans walk elsewhere this past offseason as the new management group wanted to change the culture in the Marlins locker room. The inexperience of the Marlins has been showing all season but in a recent series with the New York Yankees showed mightily. The Marlins dropped game 1 of a 2 game series with the New York Yankees 12-1 which was expected out of most baseball fans. Caleb Smith pitched for the Marlins on 4/16 where he got absolutely slaughtered as he was only able to last 2.1 innings as he gave up 5 earned runs in his appearance. Smith has been pretty bad all season as he has started in 4 games going 0-2 in those matchups with an ERA of 6.89 but that is expected out of a guy who had an ERA of 7.71 last season in his 1st MLB season. The Marlins then proceeded to come out on 4/17 and look like a World Series contender as they flipped the page on the Yankees as they held the strong Yankee lineup to 4 hits in a 9-1 win. The Marlins welcomed back C J.T Realmuto who played in his first game all season after returning from the DL, and he didn’t disappoint as he went 2 for 4 with 1 HR and 4 RBIs.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

Thames Is Flames

The Milwaukee Brewers have been looking to return to the postseason ever since their 2011 season when they won their only NL Central title and although the Brewers have been trading wins and losses all season they have the team capable of sneaking in via Wild Card. The Milwaukee Brewers were an 86 win team in 2017 only 1 win away from securing a playoff bid but in 2018 the Brewers have brought in new faces such as Christian Yelich and Lorenzo Cain to give this team the necessary boost to win more games. The Brewers also have one of the best power hitters in our game with Eric Thames who has been an absolute monster in the early going with 6 HRs and 9 RBIs and at times has been the only offensive production the Brewers can squeeze out. On the pitching end of things, Junior Guerra and Chase Anderson have both been great as they have combined for 6 starts this season averaging an ERA of 1.82. The Brewers have also enjoyed good bullpen work from Jeremy Jeffress, Josh Hader, and Jacob Barnes who have combined for 31.2 innings of work this season giving up a total of 5 earned runs. The Brewers are hoping that Christian Yelich who just came off the DL returns to himself and helps contribute to more wins and a Brewers playoff berth.

How Miami Marlins & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Miami is 5-12, 2-3 on the road.

Milwaukee is 9-9, 3-6 at home.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Trevor Richards (0-1, 4.70 ERA) for the Miami Marlins vs. Jhoulys Chacin (0-1, 5.60 ERA) for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Richards last started on 4/14 against the Pirates where he went 7 innings giving up only 2 hits in a ND.

Chacin last started on 4/15 against the Mets where he went 4 innings giving up 1 earned runs on 5 hits in a ND.

Milwaukee and Miami both rank bottom 10 in runs scored.

Milwaukee ranks middle of the pack in team ERA while Miami ranks bottom 3.

Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers

My reason for the pick :

The Milwaukee Brewers have the blessing to play two of the worst teams in baseball back to back but that doesn’t necessarily guarantee a win as they still need to show up. Richards pitched well last go around against a good hitting Pirates team but his first two starts weren’t as pretty. Yelich will be back in the lineup healthy and will want to play extra hard against his former team. Milwaukee wins at home.

Betting trends for Miami Marlins:

  • Miami is 4-9 with no rest this season.

  • The over is 4-1 as road underdogs this season.

Betting trends for Milwaukee Brewers:

  • Milwaukee is 7-5 in night games this season.

  • The under is 6-3 at home this season.
