Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New York Mets vs Atlanta Braves
The Atlanta Braves will kick one divisional opponent out the door and welcome in another opponent as the Braves will host the 1st place New York Mets in a NL East clash. The young Braves will look to continue growing and have a perfect opportunity in gaining some confidence if they can pick up a couple of wins this weekend.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The New York Mets lived and died by their pitching the last few years as it has been their roadmap to success, and although the Mets have received great pitching from their starters and bullpen a recent collapse against NL East rivals has the bullpen treading water. In a 4/16 matchup with the Washington Nationals Jacob deGrom enjoyed one of his best starts of the young 2018 season as he went 7.1 innings striking out 12 guys leaving the game with the Mets up 6-1 but enter the bullpen. The combination of Seth Lugo, Jerry Blevins, and A.J Ramos blew the 6-1 lead and gave up 6 runs in the top of the 8th inning to propel the Nationals to a win. Now although all three of these guys have been great for the Mets all year and will continue dealing it still concerns Mets fans as the bullpen has struggled before in recent years which has caused the Mets to lose some big games. On the hitting end of things, the Mets are enjoying what their 12 year SS Asdrubal Cabrera has brought to the table as he currently leads the Mets in HRs and batting average as he has gone yard 4 times as well as posting a batting average of .339. The Mets look to grow from this experience and move forward as the season is still very long.
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
Back & Forth Baseball
The Atlanta Braves have been energized by some of their young talent and look to continue growing as a ball club and this past series against the Philadelphia Phillies have the Braves feeling like they are playing in important games already in April. The Braves were not expected to compete this season but either were the Phillies and with both teams off to good starts their past series felt that much more important. The Braves were satisfied to finally receive some good pitching from a guy that the Braves want to call a future ace in Julio Tehran. Tehran looked as good as any pitcher has this season in his most recent start on 4/16 as he was able to go 6 innings striking out 9 batters. Tehran needed a win and a good game like this as he has been struggling to find his footing this season as even with a good game like this his ERA still sits at a 5.40. Another guy that the Braves have high aspirations for moving forward is Mike Foltynewicz who has been off to a great start in 2018 as he has an ERA of 2.53 while striking out 26 guys in the 21.1 innings of action he has seen. The best sign for the Braves is that they still have 10 pitchers in their minor league system who received at least a rating of a B which means good career potential.

New York sits in the top 5 in team ERA while Atlanta sits inside the top 10.
Against The Spread Selection: New York Mets
My reason for the pick :
Anytime the Mets have Noah Syndergaard on the mound it is hard to go against him as he is one of the best pitchers in today game. Both teams are coming off NL East games against teams that all should be in the playoff hunt come October but the only difference is the Mets are used to these types of games. The Mets bullpen will not give up 6 runs in an inning and I can guarantee that. Mets open up in Atlanta with a win.
