Miami Marlins vs Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are looking to host the Miami Marlins in the 3rd game of a 4 game series in a National League matchup. Milwaukee needs to continue winning as they are chasing the Cardinals and Pirates and want to keep a lead on the struggling Cubs. Miami is looking to go through the motions until management figures out some solutions.

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

Bright Spot

The Miami Marlins may have traded away all of their offensive production last season which of course has caused the Marlins to lose a couple of games but the struggle has been more in the starting pitching. The Marlins have started 6 pitchers in the early going and have found success with only one of those starters as the other 5 have been a serious problem. Jarlin Garcia is in his second year with the Marlins as he pitched in 68 games last year out of the bullpen and although the Marlins are slowly transforming him into a starter he hasn’t disappointed. Garcia first appeared this year on 3/30 as a long reliever in which he went 6 shutout innings only giving up 1 hit. The Marlins saw the potential in Garcia going long innings and allowed him to start on 4/11 against the Mets where he went 6 innings with a no-hitter but was pulled by the Marlins manager. This start wasn’t a fluke either as Garcia received another start on 4/17 against the Yankees where he went 5 shutout innings giving up only 1 hit in this matchup. Garcia is enjoying a good year as a starter and might be the guy moving forward for the Marlins but that still leaves the Marlins with 4 open spots in the rotation.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

Pitching And Thames

The Milwaukee Brewers have never been seen as a shutout pitching squad but after the last 2 games against the Cincinnati Reds, you may be led to believe different. The Brewers shutout the Reds in 2 straight games as they won 2-0 in both games as the pitchers were great from the starters to the bullpen as they only allowed a total of 6 hits in the 18 shutout innings. The most satisfying performance was from starter Zach Davies who struggled through his first 3 starts as he went 0-2 with an ERA of 6.75. Davies went 17-9 last year as he had another sub 4.00 ERA year with a 3.90 as well as 124 strikeouts. In Davies last start on 4/18 he obtained his first win as he went 6.1 innings giving up only 3 hits which has helped bring his season ERA down to a 4.84. Eric Thames has also been the only offense that the Brewers have had as he helped bring in the 4 runs in their 2 wins. Thames has been awesome this year as he has hit 7 HRs and 11 RBIs and is hoping to top his season total from last year where he hit 31 HRs and 63 RBIs in 138 games. The Brewers will need production from Yelich, Braun, and Cain going forward if they want to win more games as Thames cant be the only source of scoring.

How Miami Marlins & Milwaukee Brewers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Miami is 5-12, 2-3 on the road.

Milwaukee is 10-9, 4-6 at home.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Jose Urena (0-3, 5.57 ERA) for the Miami Marlins vs. Brent Suter (1-2, 4.87 ERA) for the Milwaukee Brewers.

Urena last started on 4/15 against the Pirates where he went 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 8 hits in a L.

Suter last started on 4/16 against the Reds where he went 5 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits in a L.

Milwaukee and Miami both rank bottom 10 in runs scored.

Milwaukee ranks middle of the pack in team ERA while Miami ranks bottom 3.

Against The Spread Selection: Milwaukee Brewers

My reason for the pick :

The Brewers pitching staff has looked good over the last few games while the same can’t be said for the Marlins. Urena has been getting destroyed all season and I don’t think he will be able to flip a switch on the road especially with Thames in the lineup. Brewers win at home.
