Pittsburgh Pirates vs Philadelphia Phillies
The Philadelphia Phillies are set to host their cross-state rivals in the Pittsburgh Pirates in game 3 of a 4 game series. Both teams have enjoyed a good start to their season as they both sit towards the top of their division.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
Hot Hitting Pirates
The Pittsburgh Pirates have stayed in the top 5 in runs scored as a team all season and in a 4/18 matchup we saw the Pirates display just that as they put up 10 runs on the Colorado Rockies. The Pittsburgh Pirates receive production from just about everybody in their lineup as not one person has taken over a game in terms of the only guy getting runs in. The Pirates currently have 4 guys who have double-digit RBIs and 11 guys who have at least 1 HR on the season which is remarkable for a team that only has a handful of household names. The best Pirate in terms of HRs and RBIs has been the 5-year veteran OF Gregory Polanco who if keeps pace may break some personal records. In 2017 Polanco only had 11 HRs and 35 RBIs in the 108 games he appeared in but he has rebounded in a big way as through the early slate of 2018 Polanco has 5 HRs and 15 RBIs and should reach last years production by the end of May. Another guy who has been playing better in 2018 is the Andrew McCutchen successor in CF Starling Marte. Marte only had 7 HRs and 31 RBIs in 2017 but to start 2018 Marte has 3 HRs and 7 RBIs and a great OBP with a .924.
Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :
The Philadelphia Phillies have not made the playoffs since 2011 as they have finished in the last 2 spots of the NL East the last 5 years but a new young team with a brand new manager has the Phillies feeling better about themselves. The Phillies have plenty of studs under the age of 25 as they have Maikel Franco and Rhys Hoskins in the field, and Aaron Nola and Nick Pivetta on the mound. Franco and Hoskins have been one of the main reasons that the Phillies have put runs on the board as Hoskins and Franco have combined for 4 HRs and 30 RBIs as the duo sits in the middle of the batting order. On the pitching end of the spectrum, starters Nick Pvietta and Aaron Nola have combined for 8 starts this season totaling 46 innings as they average an ERA of 2.36. Not to mention the 3 best guys out of the bullpen are also under the age of 25 as Edubray Ramos, Victor Arano, and Yacksel Rios have combined for 21 innings giving up only 3 runs as a whole. The Phillies have a young team that is performing way above expectations as they sit in 2nd place in one of the deepest divisions of baseball. Philadelphia may become a destination for some high-end free agents in the coming years as the potential is there and Philadelphia is a nice city to play in.

Against The Spread Selection: Philadelphia Phillies
My reason for the pick :
Aaron Nola has progressively grown over the course of his young career and we are starting to see how dominate Nola will be in this league for years to come. Brault got wrecked in his last start against a Rockies team that has been sluggish hitting the ball. Philadelphia is relieved to be back at their home park and will not disappoint with Nola on the mound. Philly wins.
