Seattle Mariners vs Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers are looking to string some wins together as they host AL West opponent in the Seattle Mariners in game 2 of a 3 game series. This is the 1st series of the season between these teams as they will go head to head all year long.

Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :

Scoring Takes A Backseat

The Seattle Mariners hold the MLB record for most wins in a season with 116 which occurred during the 2001 season as that also happens to be the last playoff appearance for this franchise. The Seattle Mariners have put together a solid team over the course of the last few years but the road to the playoffs is as blurry as a foggy day as the AL West host 3 potential playoff teams, 1 of which are the defending champions. The Mariners after a few hot hitting games against the A’s and Royals seem to lost their mojo as they lost 3 straight games scoring only 1 run in each game. The Mariners have no problem getting on base as their 1-3 hitters all have over a .300 batting average. The combination of Dee Gordon and Jean Segura is deadly as they have been some of the best contact hitters this year both batting .300 in the 1-2 spot. Dee Gordon has been deadly when he gets on the base path as he has 7 stolen bases on the season which is vital for a team as they can get him to 2nd in a matter of seconds to lead off a game. The Mariners may need to shake up their lineup and move Kyle Seager and Mitch Haniger up in the batting order as they have a combined 26 RBIs from the 5-6 spot in the lineup.

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

Inconsistency Killing Texas

Given the injuries and the division that the Texas Rangers play in you almost have to excuse a slow start to the season but when a team wins a series against the defending World Series champions to only follow that up by losing a series against a last place team you have to scratch your head. The main reason that this team has struggled is because they have not received any production out of both their starting lineup and starting pitchers. The Rangers 5-6-7 hitters in Joey Gallo, Robinson Chirinos, and Drew Robinson have struggled to find their swing in the early going as the 3 have put together a batting average of .181 as well as combined for 75 strikeouts. The Rangers on the pitching end of things have not been smooth as the second guy in the rotation has looked like a high school pitcher as he has given up runs and hits like it is nothing. Martin Perez is in his 7th straight season as a Rangers starter where he has been solid in the past as he is around a .500 pitcher in terms of wins and loses. Martin Perez in 2018 has started 3 games and has gone 1-2 in those starts but it gets worse as he has given up 19 runs on 29 hits in only 12.1 innings of work. The Rangers best interest is to send Perez down to the minors and allow him to gain some confidence back before he gets slaughtered again in an MLB game.

How Seattle Mariners & Texas Rangers Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Seattle is 9-6, 4-3 on the road.

Texas is 7-13, 2-8 at home.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: James Paxton (1-1, 4.57 ERA) for the Seattle Mariners vs. Bartolo Colon (0-0, 1.45 ERA) for the Texas Rangers.

Paxton last started on 4/16 against the Astros where he went 6 innings striking out 7 guys in a W.

Colon last started on 4/15 against the Astros where he went 7.2 innings giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit in a ND.

Seattle and Texas both rank in the bottom 15 in runs scored.

Seattle and Texas both rank in the bottom 10 in team ERA.

Against The Spread Selection: Seattle Mariners

My reason for the pick :

Colon taking a no-hitter into the 8th inning against the Astros was something else but I just can trust Colon to keep his hot pitching up forever as age will catch up with him. Paxton was the best pitcher on the Mariners in 2017 and after a slow start to 2018 he looked much better in his last start and I think that continues in this matchup against the lowly Rangers. Mariners pick up a nice road win.

Betting trends for Seattle Mariners:

  • Seattle is 5-2 in night games this season.

  • The over is 5-2 on the road this season.

Betting trends for Texas Rangers:

  • Texas is 39-51 against AL West opponents dating back to 2017.

  • The over is 6-4 at home this season.
