Washington Nationals vs Los Angeles Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers seem to be getting back on the right track as they have strung a couple of wins together and get to go against a high caliber team in the Washington Nationals. These two teams were supposed to be the two front-runners in the National League come playoff time but a slow start has these teams pinned in the middle of their divisions.

Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :

Turnaround For The Nats

The Washington Nationals have been waiting for that turnaround point in the season as they have been trading wins and losses all season which is disappointing for a team that is supposed to be a favorite this postseason. The Nationals may have finally got to the point where they said enough is enough as they finally beat down on a team as they took 2 out of 3 games against the 1st place New York Mets. The Nationals have arguably the best player in baseball who is well on his way to solidifying a spot as one of the best of all time in Bryce Harper. Bryce Harper may only be 25 years old but he is tired of first-round playoff exits as this team has potential every year to win it and he is on a mission this year to take this team to the top. Harper as an individual is the early frontrunner for MVP as he is on an absolute tear this season as he leads the MLB in HRs and RBIs with 8 and 18. The Nationals may not only host the future MVP on their team but may also have a Cy Young winner as Max Scherzer is enjoying another good start to the season. Scherzer has started 4 games this season and has posted a record of 3-1 in those games with an ERA of 1.33 but even better leads the MLB in strikeouts with 38.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

Starting Pitching Leading The Way

The Los Angeles Dodgers struggled through the first 2 weeks of the season which can be accredited mainly to the lack of hitting from their lineup. The starters for the Dodgers have done their job all season and have put the team in the best position to win ball games and with their lineup heating up we have seen the 2017 Dodgers come back around. The Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw started the year as he always does, straight fire, but the lack of Dodgers hitting through the early portion of the season had Kershaw starting the season 0-2. Kershaw only gave up 3 runs in the 2 games he lost which is normally nothing for the Dodgers as the 2017 team could easily put that up in 1 innings. Kershaw in his most recent start on 4/15 finally received the offensive support that the Dodgers have been accustomed to in the past as they gave him 7 runs of support against a good pitching Diamondbacks team. Kershaw went 7 innings in this ball game as he struck out 12 guys giving up only 2 hits in the process. The Dodgers have been enjoying the bat of their C Yasmani Grandal who leads the team in every major statistical category with 3 HRs, 12 RBIs, and a batting average of .347.

Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Dodgers

My reason for the pick :

This might be the hardest game on the slate to pick as we have two teams who look like they are turning it around as well as pitching some of their best arms. The reason that I am backing Kershaw in this matchup is because he has been good in every single game he has started in regardless of his record while Strasburg didn’t have a good last outing. Los Angeles wins a close one at home.

Betting trends for Washington Nationals:

  • Washington is 1-4 against left-handed pitchers this season.

  • The under is 21-13-4 as underdogs since 2017.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Dodgers:
