Cincinnati Reds vs St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals had 2 out of their 4 games postponed this week against their hated rival in the Chicago Cubs but look to get back on track as they host the Cincinnati Reds in game 2 of a 3 game series. These teams met last weekend where the Cardinals took all 4 games in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :

Tanking Already?

Every season in every sport we have bad teams and usually a good reason for a bad year is because the team is going through a full rebuild process but that is not the case in Cincinnati as they still have some of their talent that was competing a couple of years ago on their roster. If the Reds wanted to commit to a full rebuild they would have traded away assets like Adam Duvall, Joey Votto, Billy Hamilton, or Scooter Gennett as all 4 players are capable of starting elsewhere. The Reds currently do not have an identity as they are unsure how to go about the rest of the season, GM Dick Williams has made his 1st big decision of the season as he fired his manager Bryan Price as he has struggled to crack 68 wins the last 3 season. The Reds are currently the only team in the MLB who does not have someone in double-digit RBIs this year as Adam Duvall leads the team with 9. Although Duvall leads the team in HRs and RBIs he has not hit the ball as well as he only has 11 hits in 63 ABs which brings his season average to a .175.  The Reds are also scratching their head as their 11-year 1B Joey Votto is coming off a career year in where he hit 36 HRs and 100 RBIs but in 2018 he has yet to hit a HR and only has .005% of last years RBIs as he has 5.

Heating Up In St. Louis

The St. Louis Cardinals entered their series last weekend against the Cincinnati Reds in 4th place with a record of 5-7 but after rattling off a couple of wins the Cardinals have climbed all the way into 2nd place in the NL Central. The Cardinals are enjoying some of their best baseball right now especially from the bat of Yadier Molina. Molina is in his 15th season as the Cardinals catcher and has gotten off to one of his best starts yet as he leads a young Cardinals lineup in HRs with 5 and sits second in RBIs with 12.The leader in RBIs for the Cardinals is the 29-year-old 1B Jose Martinez who is just in his 2nd full year of professional baseball but that doesn’t phase Martinez as he has 3 HRs and a team high in RBIs and BA with 15 RBIs and a .339 batting average. The starters for the Cardinals have also been heating up just like the bats as they are slowly feeling more confident in themselves. 14-year veteran Adam Wainwright had a sluggish start to the season as he entered his 3rd start with a 5.06 ERA but one good start against the Cubs on 4/17 has Wainwright feeling better about himself as he went 5 innings giving up 0 earned runs to earn his first win of the season as well as brought his season ERA down to a 3.45.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals

My reason for the pick :

The St. Louis Cardinals are throwing their ace in Carlos Martinez against the worst team in the MLB, that is free money. All though Bailey has been the Reds best starter he is nowhere near good as the Cardinals lineup was too much for him in his last outing and I believe they will be too much in this outing at home. St. Louis wins at home.

Betting trends for Cincinnati Reds:
