Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
Big Performance From MVP
The Houston Astros look to be in a battle this year for the AL West as the Los Angeles Angels and Seattle Mariners are revamped with new faces and playing reasonably good baseball to be in consideration. The Astros have been pretty good on the pitching end of things as all 5 starters are capable of picking up wins in bunches and although the bats haven’t been terrible they haven’t been amazing either. On 4/19 the Houston Astros enjoyed a good display from their bats as they were able to put up 9 runs on division foe, Seattle Mariners. 2017 MVP Jose Altuve has been enjoying another great year and he continued his hot hitting in this game as Altuve went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs. Altuve is currently batting .342 on the season but after having two 20+ HR seasons from 2016-2017 Altuve has yet to go yard in 2018. Josh Reddick has delivered the power for the Astros this season as he currently has 4 HRs and 10 RBIs, and looks like he is on his way to having one of his best years since the 2012 season where he homered 32 times with 85 RBIs. The Astros are hoping that they can continue riding the hot arms of starters Justin Verlander, Gerrit Cole, and Charlie Morton as they all have been great this season combining for a record of 7-0.
Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
Hard Times In Chicago
The Chicago White Sox have not made the postseason since 2008 and not much looks like it is going to change in 2018 as the White Sox have struggled as they entered this series 1-9 through their last 10 games. The Chicago White Sox are coming off a series in Oakland where they gave up a total of 30 runs in 3 straight loses which has been the story for the White Sox all season as they have one of the worst pitching staffs in the MLB. On the starting end of the rotation the White Sox host guys like Marvin Gonzalez who has a 12.41 ERA through his first 3 starts and not to mention he has lost every start. Gonzalez in his last start was only able to last 3 innings against the A’s where he gave up 8 earned runs in his short appearance. The White Sox don’t get much better when they have to go to their bullpen as the combination of Luis Avilan, Gregory Infante, and Aaron Bummer has seen 14 innings and averaging an ERA of 10.51. The one positive out of their last series in Oakland is the revival in the bat of their 22-year old 2B Yoan Moncada who has struggled this year with 29 strikeouts and a batting average of .222, but over the course of the last 2 games in Oakland had 2 HRs and 6 RBIs.
How Houston Astros & Chicago White Sox Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Houston is 13-7, 7-4 on the road.
Chicago is 4-11, 1-5 at home.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Lance McCullers Jr. (2-1, 5.57 ERA) for the Houston Astros vs. Reynaldo Lopez (0-2, 1.42 ERA) for the Chicago White Sox
McCullers last started on 4/17 against the Mariners where he went 7 innings striking out 11 guys in a W.
Lopez last started on 4/16 against the A’s where he went 6 innings striking out 10 guys in a L.
Houston ranks in the top 15 in team runs while Chicago ranks in the bottom 10.
Houston is the top-ranked team in terms of ERA whole Chicago ranks last.
Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
McCullers looked good his last go around after he got wrecked 2 starts ago, reports say McCullers worked on his mechanics after struggling and it looks like it paid off. Lopez has been the best pitcher for the White Sox but as you see in his record he has gotten little support from his lineup and I don’t think that will change here. Houston closes out the series with a win.
