Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

Can Twins Get Starters Back On Track?

The Minnesota Twins aren’t a team made up of 6-7 all-stars, but as we have seen from teams in the past that isn’t necessary in today’s day and age especially when you have a bunch of solid players throughout your lineup. The Twins are one of those teams who outside Miguel Sano, Brian Dozier, and vintage Joe Mauer don’t have much hardware to flash around, but with that being said the Twins depend on the success of their lineup 1-9 which has not been the case this year. Logan Morrison, Robbie Grossman, and Byron Buxton have all had their fair share of struggles this season which is not to the Twins best interest as all three guys have seen valuable time in the starting lineup. Logan Morrison has looked like a bust this season in his first season with Minnesota as he currently has 3 hits in 44 ABs which brings his batting average to a .068. It hasn’t been a thing of making contact with the ball as he only has 12 strikeouts which only accounts for 27% of his ABs. Morrison has caught a couple of bad breaks as he can’t find a gap to put the ball in. Another newcomer that the Twins want to get going is SP Lance Lynn who has a 5.00 ERA in only 9 innings. Once the production of both Morrison and Lynn come around combined with the return of Ervin Santana from the DL the Twins will be in good shape.

New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

Stanton Struggles Continue

If you watch baseball on a regular basis you know the guy who led the MLB in 2017 with 59 HRs and 132 RBI is off to an awful start this season with his new team and that guy happens to be OF Giancarlo Stanton. Stanton has struggled under the bright lights of NYC as he currently sits in the top 3 in strikeouts this season and after his 2 HR debut during the first game of the season, Stanton has only hit 1 more HR. With all the talks of Stanton struggling the media hasn’t talked about the success of the other 6’7 giant in Aaron Judge. Judge is quietly going about his business while his partner in crime is struggling as Judge has one of the best batting averages on the team with a .339 as well as 5 HRs and 12 RBIs. Judge like Stanton struggles with the strikeouts as Judge broke a historic mark last year for consecutive games with a strikeout, but this may eventually play into the favor of Stanton as he can take a page out of Judge’s book in terms of rebounding from a bad season. The Yankees have been satisfied with the success of their closer Aroldis Chapman who has struggled in a Yankee uniform but on 4/19 Chapman looked like his vintage self as he struck out all 3 batters in the top of the 9th inning to secure a save and a Yankees win.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Jose Berrios (2-1, 1.63 ERA) for the Minnesota Twins vs. Masahiro Tanaka (2-2, 6.45 ERA) for the New York Yankees.

Berrios last started on 4/18 against the Indians where he went 7 innings giving up 0 earned runs on 3 hits in a ND.

Tanaka last started on 4/17 against the Marlins where he went 5 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 8 hits in a L.

New York is in the top 10 in runs scored while Minnesota ranks in the bottom 5.

Minnesota is in the top 5 in team ERA while the Yankees rank in the bottom 10.

Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins

My reason for the pick :

Tanaka struggles have dated back to the beginning of the 2017 season and it looks like he is going through another down year as Tanka got wrecked by the Marlins last start. Berrios has also been really good for the Twins as he has pitched well against top teams and given the Yankees inconsistency I will give the nod to Minnesota.

Betting trends for Minnesota Twins:

  • Minnesota is 6-5 against right-handed pitchers this season.

  • The under is 9-2 against AL teams this season.

Betting trends for New York Yankees:

  • New York is 5-7 with no rest this season.

  • The over is 7-2 at home this season.
