San Diego Padres vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks are set to play in game 2 of a 3 game series as they will host the San Diego Padres for the 2nd time this season in an NL West clash. These two teams are trending in opposite directions as Arizona is leading the division while San Diego sits at the bottom.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

Slaughtered 3x

The San Diego Padres are not a team who will scare most teams in the MLB and their youth has shown over the course of the week as they rattled off 3 impressive wins in a row against the San Francisco Giants to only get destroyed for 3 straight games against the Los Angeles Dodgers. In the Padres most recent game on 4/18, the Padres were looking to get to the locker room as soon as possible as they lost 13-4 as starter Luis Perdomo got put inside out. Perdomo hasn’t been anywhere near good this season and in his 4th start of the season we saw just that as he gave up 7 earned runs on 10 hits in only 3 innings worth of work. To Perdomo’s credit, he did drive in an RBI during the 2nd inning as he hit a sacrifice fly. Perdomo is 1-2 on the season with the 2nd worse ERA on the team as he is posting an 8.36. The Padres are starting to receive a good amount of production from their new toy in Matt Szczur who was acquired midway into the season last year as he is batting .294. Szczur had been a good guy off the bench for the Cubs in recent years and he might be ready to take over a full-time starting role. The Padres are hoping to build confidence and evaluate talent this season rather than win.

Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :

Tough Losses

The Arizona Diamondbacks didn’t only experience a tough hard fought loss but also lost one of their starting pitchers for the rest of the season due to injury. The Arizona Diamondbacks have had one of the best starting rotations in all of baseball as the 1-5 guys have been dealing all season. Taijuan Walker is in his 2nd year as an Arizona starter but his season has been cut short as he will need Tommy John surgery. Walker has started 3 games this year and has posted an ERA of 3.46 and a WHIP of 1.54. Matt Koch might be an option to replace Walker in the starting rotation as he is a true starter who has moved to the bullpen the last 3 years to make the MLB roster. The Diamondbacks also received a tough loss on the diamond as they dropped an extra-inning game on 4/18 to the San Francisco Giants as Brad Boxberger gave up a 2 run shot in the top of the 10th. Boxberger has been one of the best relievers for the Diamondbacks this year as he pitched in 7 straight shutout innings to start the year but the Giants Brandon Belt put his confidence in a coffin as he took him yard in a losing effort. The Diamondbacks are looking to refresh both their starters and relievers as blows to the pitchers physically and mentally have affected them this week.

The Diamondbacks are a true contender this season as they possess all the necessary assets to win and they have shown just that in the early going. The Diamondbacks have also been really good at home while San Diego has been average on the road. Godley has been solid all season and that continues in this matchup.
