Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Francisco Giants vs Los Angeles Angels
The Los Angeles Angels are hoping to pick up a win in the final game of their home series against the San Francisco Giants as they will travel to Houston after this matchup which will be a vital game in terms of standings.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
Lack Of Bats
The San Francisco Giants, all things considered, have not been terrible this season as they have received pretty good pitching but their problem has been the lack of scoring as the Giants sit in dead last in runs scored. The Giants have lost 3 games by 1 run and 3 games by 2 runs which goes to show how competitive they have been this season. The Giants have the bats in their lineup as they have guys like Andrew McCutchen, Evan Longoria, Pablo Sandoval, and Hunter Pence, so what seems to be the problem? Well over the last 2 losses which were both against the Diamondbacks 3 of the Giants best hitters on paper were awful as the combination of Andrew McCutchen, Evan Longoria, and Buster Posey went 2 for 17. On the positive side of things, the Giants have found a bright spot in 2 of their older players as outfielders Gregor Blanco and Gorkys Hernandez average 32 years of age but also have the 2 best batting averages as Blanco leads the team with a .370 and Hernandez is just behind him with a .316. As good as these two have been in terms of making contact with the ball the two only combine for 2 RBIs which is problematic as they sit towards the top of the batting order.
Los Angeles Angels's Latest Performance :
Brought Back Down
The Los Angeles Angels entered their previous series with all the confidence in the world as they led the AL West with a record of 13-3 and they had a shot of showing the rest of the MLB they were true contenders as they took on the Boston Red Sox. The Angels got absolutely clobbered in three straight games as they got outscored 27-3. The Angels have been brought down to earth as they might not be as good as they thought they were but this series is vital for them as they will need the confidence as they will play the defending World Series champions in what is looking to be a matchup for first place. The Angels have been really good all season hitting the ball as before this series they were the top scoring team in the MLB, so what happened? In their last game on 4/19 against the Red Sox, the combination of their 4 best hitters which includes Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, Justin Upton, and Shohei Ohtani went 0 for 12. The only offense in this game came from the bats of Zack Cozart and Chris Young which may be a positive to take out of this series as Cozart has struggled from the plate batting .247 and Young homered for the first time this season. The Angels will want to make sure that this series is forgotten and out of their minds as they are still in 1st place and don’t have room for error.

San Francisco is 7-11, 4-7 on the road.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Johnny Cueto (1-0, .45 ERA) for the San Francisco Giants vs. Shohei Ohtani (2-1, 3.60 ERA) for the Los Angeles Angels.
Cueto last started on 4/17 against the Diamondbacks where he went 7 innings striking out 11 guys in a ND.
Ohtani last started on 4/1 7 against the Red Sox where he went 2 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 4 hits in a L.
Los Angeles is ranked in the top 3 in scoring runs while San Francisco ranks last.
Los Angeles and San Francisco both rank outside the top 10 in team ERA.
Against The Spread Selection: Los Angeles Angels
My reason for the pick :
Cueto has been great for the Giants and I really want to back him in this matchup, but the only problem is when he comes out of the game the bullpen blows it. The Giants have also given him little run support this season and it seems like the first one to score a run wins in which I will trust the good Angels lineup in that case. Angels get a much needed win.
