Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Boston Red Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays

The Blue Jays will host the Red Sox at the Rogers Centre where both teams are coming off their first series loss of the season and looking to bounce back. The Red Sox will be in Toronto for three games to wrap up a nine-game road trip.

Boston Red Sox 's Latest Performance :

The Red Sox have cooled down a bit after the terrific start to the season, dropping their last two games against the Athletics making it their first series loss of the season. The Red Sox also lost back to back games for the first time this season, the first loss came from the impressive no-hitter put up by Sean Manaea. Every team is expected to give their best efforts when facing the Sox and the A’s finally came through in the last series.

The Red Sox still hold a 4 game lead in the AL East. Price allowed his second homer of the season snapped a streak of 9 consecutive games that the Sox pitching had allowed three or fewer runs.

Look for Mookie Betts, Hanley Ramirez, and Eduardo Nunez to return to the rotation. Mookie Betts who has been on a tear to start the season with 6 homers this season and 3 homers coming in-game, look for him to bounce back against the Blue Jays.

Eduardo Rodriguez should be pitching the second game of the series. Boston is 3-0 when Rodriguez has toed the rubber this season. He has given the Sox two straight quality starts after a short outing to start the year. In his last start, he allowed two earned runs in six innings against the Angels, striking out five.

Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :

The Blue Jays are coming off a 3-1 series loss to the Dodgers, making it their first series loss of the season. The Blue Jays have now dropped three of four games as they fall to 13-8 it was bound to happen.

Jaime Garcia who had a terrific start to the year gave up four runs over 5 innings which made his ERA ballooned to 4.57. The first series loss meant that the Blue Jays were unable to remain undefeated through their first seven series, last time that happened was in 1992. They won the World Series that year.

The Blue Jays weren’t able to generate any offense, the Blue Jays line up only managed to score just two runs on seven hits during the final two games in New York. The Jays are a perfect 12-0 when scoring four or more runs but 1-8 when scoring three or less. The more runs the team are able to pull out the more victories they will get but when the Blue Jays face a top-notch pitcher like Severino the team struggled to score and gave up 14 runs in two games.

Sanchez, Happ, and Garcia need to step up their pitching to keep the game close and give a chance for the Batters to close out the game rather than playing catch up. With Mookie Betts being as hot as he is the Blue Jays pitchers need to pull out a remarkable performance because you can’t afford to play catchup with the Red Sox.

Aaron Sanchez will be in charge of the pitching in the second meeting. Sanchez has experienced a dip in velocity. In 2016, he averaged 95.4 mph on his two-seam fastball, but in a recent outing against the Yankees that dropped to an average of 92.8. Sanchez has three quality starts in four outings this year.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

When two great teams play each other, it will all come down to who has a better pitcher, the Blue Jays struggled to generate offense against quality pitchers, Rodriguez is 3-0 for Boston. The Blue Jays are 1-8 when scoring three or less.

Red Sox to beat out the Blue Jays at home.
