Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Minnesota Twins vs New York Yankees

The New York Yankees would love nothing more than to snag another win in the final game of a 10 game homestand as they will host the Minnesota Twins before they have to travel to the West Coast to face the LA Angels. These two team will not meet again until 9/10 where the Yankees will travel to Minnesota for a 3 game series.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

Minnesota Dropping Games

The one thing that any team in the American League can’t afford to do is go on a losing streak as there are 4 teams who can easily be Wild Card teams, but the problem is there are only 2 spots. The Minnesota Twins were in prime position last week to take a nice lead in the struggling AL Central, but after dropping 6 out of the last 10 games the Twins have found themselves sinking in the division. The Twins have struggled on the pitching end of things as they only have 1 starter and 2 relievers under a 4.00 ERA. Jake Odorizzi was doing just enough through his first 4 starts to get the Twins in position to win as he posted a 3.38 ERA, but after his 4/23 matchup against the Yankees Odorizzi is questioning his pitching abilities. Odorizzi was only able to last 4.2 innings where he gave up 5 earned runs which has shot his ERA up to a 4.50. The game got so out of control from the pitchers that the Twins starting CF Ryan LaMarre came in to pitch in the final inning where he recorded 2 outs in the inning giving up 1 earned run on 1 hit. The one bright spot for the Twins has been their leadoff hitter Brian Dozier who entered this series on a 23 game hit streak. Dozier was able to do just enough in this matchup to extend his hitting streak to 24 as he went 1 for 4 in the ball game.

New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

Yankees Show Dominance

The Yankees have shown spurts of dominance throughout the season, but their problem has been inconsistency as they have followed blowout wins with blowout losses, but when this Yankees team is clicking they are fun to watch. The Yankees welcomed the Twins into town on 4/23 for the first game of the series, and after 3 runs in the first inning, they did not look back as they cruised to a 14-1 victory. New York fans can finally sit back in their seat and clap for Giancarlo Stanton rather than booing him as he had arguably his best game as a Yankees as he went 4 for 4 with 1 HR and 2 RBIs which gives him 5 HRs and 14 RBIs on the season. The Yankees have received an unexpected boost from the young 1B Tyler Austin who over the last 7 games has homered 1 time as well as knocked in 10 guys, 4 of which came in the 4/23 matchup. The Yankees are hoping that their #1 prospect Gleyber Torres gives a boost to the lineup as he has finally been called up to the MLB after years of being told he can be called up at any minute. The Yankees received good pitching from Masahiro Tanaka which is a relieving sight for the Yankees as Tanaka entered the game with a 6.45 ERA, but on 4/23 Tanaka gave the Yankees 6.2 solid innings giving up only 1 runs on 3 hits.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Yankees

My reason for the pick :

The New York Yankees have been in good form as of recent as they have strung a couple of nice wins together with their star-studded lineup. The Yanks are also pitching Jordan Montgomery who has been very good for the Yankees ever since he was called up in 2017. The Twins are not in good form and they will be looking to just get this game over so they can return home against the worst team in the MLB in the Cincinnati Reds. Yankees win at home.

Betting trends for Minnesota Twins:
