Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Colorado Rockies vs Miami Marlins
The Marlins will open up a 3 game series against the Rockies at the Marlins Park. Both teams are coming off solid performances Marlins winning on defense on an save and the Rockies notching their second shutout game of the season.
Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :
The Rockies will be coming off a shutout game against the Padres meaning their confidence level heading into Miami will be off the roof. Trevor Story has been amazing these last few games as he blasted his second career grand slam. In his last eight games, he is 11 for 26 with three homers and 12 RBIs. He has only been struck out 6 times. Story just allows the ball to come to him and let his mechanics do the rest this way he doesn’t have to overthink it.
Kyle Freeland is finally back in the win column. He had gone 12 starts without picking up a single win. He now has an ERA of 4.32 including 25 strikeouts.
The Rockies got their second shutout if the season. This win brings the team back above the 0.500 mark it was just their second win in the last six games and fourth in 11 home games.
In charge of the pitching for the Rockies would be Tyler Anderson. Tyler allowed two first-inning runs but no more, completing six innings in a win Saturday. The southpaw struck out six while allowing six hits and walking two over his six innings. The win was the first decision, win or loss, for Anderson this year, improving him to 1-0 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in five starts. He’ll look to make it a winning streak when the Rockies travel to take on the lowly Marlins on Friday.
Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :
The Marlins ended their 5 games losing streak as they pick up a crucial win against the Dodgers with Brad Ziegler gets his second save of the season closing out the game for Miami.
J.T. has been hot for the Marlins all season as he batted another homer making it his second homer of the year so far. Wins are hard to come by for the Marlins since they are in full rebuilding mode. The last three losses have been by a combined four runs, 11 of their 23 games have been decided by three runs or fewer. The Marlins will need to figure out a way to close out games within reach, but since they are rebuilding it is a good sign that they are keeping the games competitive as they are a team filled with young prospects. Always be seeing the bigger picture.
Dillion Peters did well in his start giving up just one run four hits over 5 1/3 innings in addition 4 strikeouts. Peters has shown sign of improving and not focus on the bad games he had but only concentrate on the good performances and build on that.
Starlin Castro has been playing well for the Marlins as he hit a single that gave the Marlins the lead and beating the Dodgers look for him to have an impact in this series against the Rockies as he is trying to make a name for himself.
Jose Urena will be taking the mound, mixing his pitches has become a focus for Urena, who is aiming to do more than rely on his fastball. He showed that in his last start. At Milwaukee, among his 99 pitches, he threw 23 changeups and 22 sliders. Urena’s fastball maxed out at 97.1 mph. He has 21 strikeouts this season to go with an ERA of 5.88.
How Colorado Rockies & Miami Marlins Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
The Marlins are 23-48 in their last 71 vs. a team with a winning record.
The Rockies are 6-2 in their last 8 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies
My reason for the pick :
Considering how the Rockies were able to shut down Padres they will be looking to build on the record and stay above the 0.500 mark, the struggling Marlins will give the Rockies to just that. Although the Marlins just picked up a win but overall they are still a pretty bad team with a 6-17 record to start the season.
