Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Milwaukee Brewers vs Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs will host the Milwaukee Brewers for game 2 of a 4 game series in an NL Central matchup. The Brewers had the luxury of going against the Reds, Marlins, and Royals in consecutive series to pile up wins and climb to the top of the division. The Cubs have started to find a little pop in their bat as they have been putting runs up with ease as of recent.

Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

Yelich Beats Up On Miami

The Milwaukee Brewers got the luxury of beating up on 3 last place teams in a row as they got to play Cincinnati and Miami at home, and traveled to Kansas City for another 2 games. Milwaukee entered their series against Kansas City on a 6 game win streak which has allowed Milwaukee to be in perfect position to take a solid lead in the NL Central. The Brewers have been missing their stud OF Christian Yelich who was acquired in the offseason but was injured after only playing 6 games with Milwaukee before he was put on the DL. Yelich got the luxury of being inserted back into the lineup against his former team in the Miami Marlins and it was a fairly good series for him as he had 1 HR and 3 RBIs in the 4 game set. The Brewers want to be careful in how much Yelich plays with his injury because Yelich is only 26 years old and could be a major part of the outfield moving forward. The Brewers have been able to enjoy the production of their 33-year old starter in Junior Guerra who has had a good start to the young 2018 season. Guerra started the year in the minors due to the Brewers being full in the starting rotation, but injuries prompted Guerra to be promoted in which he didn’t disappoint as through his first 3 starts he went 2-0 with a .59 ERA.

Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :

Offensive Onslaught

The Cubs have started to figure out that the only way they will win games this season is if they score an abundance of runs as their starters are giving them problems as they have given up a ton of runs. The Cubs star 3B Kris Bryant was the head of the offense during the beginning of the year, but Bryant has taken a back seat as of recent as only has 1 HR and 7 RBIs over the last 15 games. Javier Baez has been a monster as of recent as he doesn’t only lead the cubs in HRs and RBIs but sits in the top 3 in the MLB. Baez has 7 HRs and 24 RBIs on the season, and 3 of his HRs as came in his last 7 games where he is batting .419. Kyle Schwarber enjoyed a great game against the Indians on 4/24 as he homered 2 times in his first 2 ABs which has him at 6 HRs on the season. This is satisfying for Cubs fans as Schwarber struggled over the course of last season as he was sent down to the minors for 11 games to get his swing back on track. The Cubs have also found their new closer in Brandon Morrow as their all-star closer from 2017 in Wade Davis left town. Morrow has never been a consistent closer in his career as the last time he was in the closer role was back in 2008 where he had 10 saves. Morrow has had 4 save opportunities this season which have all resulted in Morrow coming out with a save as he has pitched in 7 shutout innings.

Chicago ranks in the top 10 in runs scored while Milwaukee ranks in the bottom half.

Milwaukee ranks in the top 10 in runs scored while Chicago ranks in the bottom half

Against The Spread Selection: Chicago Cubs

My reason for the pick :

The Cubs have fired up the bats as of recent as they have been scoring in bunches this season and Suter hasn’t been the best pitcher in keeping his opponents off the scoreboard this year. I know Darvish has struggled this season, but we have to remember that Darvish was one of the most-prized free agents this offseason for a reason as he has been excellent in the last few years. Chicago puts both facets of the game together and wins at home.
