Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Oakland Athletics vs Houston Astros
The Astros look to bounce back after dropping the series against the division rival the Angels. As they welcome the Oakland Athletics to the Minute Maid Park. The A’s has been on fire winning four straight picking up wins against the Red Sox and the Rangers.
Oakland Athletics's Latest Performance :
Winners of 4 in a row the A’s will take on the struggling defending champs Houston Astro. Coming off a series win against the red-hot Red Sox, including a no-hitter, and on the verge of sweeping the series against the Rangers, it is safe to say that the Athletics are rolling. The starters have only allowed one run or fewer in six of the last nine games, getting six innings or more from the starting pitching. Triggs completing six innings for the first time limiting the opposing team to one run in the 6th.
In terms of the batting for the A’s leading the way is Jed Lowrie has a batting average of .363 with 6 homers and 24 RBIs this season. He also achieved his 7th multi-hit over his past 10 games leading the league with 12, leading all the batters with 37 hits. Matt Olson closed out the game for the A’s by providing an RBI double in the 8th.
Taking the Pitching duties for the Athletics will be Sean Manaea, Manaea will make his first start since throwing a no-hitter against the Red Sox on Saturday. The lefty struck out 10 in the historical effort, giving him 30 strikeouts in 36 2/3 innings this season.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros are struggling to close out games, Houston had batters on base but only 2 were converted into RBIs during the 7th innings. With all the base loaded the Astros should be able to use their experience and create winning plays instead they let this game slip out of their hand. As they drop to straight home games to the Angels.
The Astros had a chance to become the hottest team in the MLB as the Red Sox were struggling against the A’s but they ended up hitting the slump of their own. Morton will look to bounce back as he walked five batters and giving up a season-high 4 runs increasing his ERA to 1.86. He has 35 strikeouts this season. The team is hoping not duplicate the home performance they had with the Angels and go back to their winning ways against the A’s who just beat the Red Sox so it won’t be an easy game for the Astros. They are the defending champs and now it is the time to turn it up a notch as they shouldn’t be losing at home.
Look for Altuve to have an impact on this series as he is still searching for his first homer of the year, he went 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs as his batting average is now at 0.333. Josh Reddick who has been in top-notch form with 6 homers already this season look for him to continue to put on a show as he went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a grand slam to total five RBI, he will be the difference maker against the A’s.
Taking pitching duties for the Astros should be Gerrit Cole, Cole took his first loss after giving up two runs over seven innings Monday against the Angels. Cole retired the first 13 batters he faced before the Angels pushed across single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. He’s gone seven innings in all five of his starts and never allowed more than two runs, he has just two wins. Cole’s ERA is 1.29.
