Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Seattle Mariners vs Cleveland Indians
The Indians will look to bounce back after a disappointing series agianst the Cubs as they welcome the Mariners to the Progressive Field as they face off in a 4 game series.
Seattle Mariners 's Latest Performance :
The Mariners season has been average so far, 16th in scoring, 6th in hitting and 11th in home runs with 25 this season. Marco Gonzales has been the team bright spot this year coming off an 8K against the Astro followed up with another 8K performance as the Mariners were able to scrape out a win against the White Sox. Multiple 8K games improved Gonzales ERA to 4.37 with 27 strikeouts this season.
The Mariners have now allowed 7.00 RPG over their last six games.
Mitch Haniger wasn’t able to continue his homer streak that ended at 4 but he did provide the RBI that got the Mariners the victory. The scoring for the Mariner has to improve with 9 runs in the last 3 games and managed to only one run against a very bad White Sox team.
Erasmo Ramirez will be in charge of the pitching. He returned from an injury and made his debut, and it didn’t go well. He allowed two home runs and five runs in 4 2/3 innings, but the veteran will try to figure out ways to bounce back after the injury.
Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :
The Indians will continue their 11 game homestand and will welcome the Mariners to the Progressive Field. Pitcher Josh Tomlin has been struggling he gave up 4 homers in his previous start, that ended a 3 game winning streak for the Indians. When a team is down with a huge margin to start the game it will be very tough to crawl back and eventually win the game.
Josh Tomlin is still winless this season having only 7 strikeouts and an ERA of 9.24. This is where teammates have to come in and support him during this slump because baseball is a team sport and you can’t win by yourself. Josh spoke about his off night, he doesn’t mind how bad or good he performs he only cares about if the team wins and if other starters are playing and the team is winning he will be supporting them fully.
It goes to show that if the pitcher is having a bad game and your batting doesn’t normally produce runs this will normally end up in a blow lost. The Indian best batter is Ramirez averaging 0.266 with 7 homers and 12 RBI this season.
Danny Salazar and Ryan Merrit still remain on the injury list, therefore, the Indians will have to stick to Josh Tomlin.
Corey Kluber should be returning to pitch (1.96 ERA) allowed three runs over seven innings in a win over Baltimore on Sunday, striking out four and walking none in the win. On Opening Day, the Tribe ace held Seattle to two runs over eight innings in a hard-luck, complete-game loss. He hasn’t lost a game yet this season.
How Seattle Mariners & Cleveland Indians Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Indians are 25-8 in their last 33 during game 1 of a series.
Mariners are 6-13 in their last 19 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game.
Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Indians
My reason for the pick :
With Kluber back on pitching duties, you can guarantee a win for the Indians. With an ERA of 1.96 and a 37 strikeouts, he is just playing on another level. The Indians should be able to generate RBI through Ramirez.
The Mariner is also struggling to score but this game will all come down to pitching and the Indians will have the advantage in that department.
Betting trends for Seattle Mariners :
- Mariners are 5-2 in their last 7 road games.
Betting trends for Cleveland Indians:
- Indians are 39-13 in their last 52 home games.
