Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Washington Nationals
The 4th place Washington Nationals will look to get back on track as they have fallen behind in the divisional race as they will host one of the hottest teams in baseball in the Arizona Diamondbacks. This is game 2 of a 3 game series and after this series, these two teams won’t meet again until 5/10 in Arizona.
Arizona Diamondbacks 's Latest Performance :
Offensive Production Spread-out
The Arizona Diamondbacks don’t have an offense who will scare many teams away, but what makes this team so good is the fact that they can receive offensive production from anyone in their lineup on any given night. The Diamondbacks were able to steal the first game of a series against the Phillies as they received 2 RBIs from David Peralta, Daniel Descalso, and Alex Avilla. David Peralta has been great as the leadoff hitter for the Diamondbacks this season as he leads the team in batting average with a .316 and has contributed enough in terms of run production as he has 2 HRs and 11 RBIs from the top of the order. The Diamondbacks have been led by A.J. Pollock all season as he looks like he may be on his way to having a career year as he has 5 HRs and 17 RBIs. The Diamondbacks received another fairly good game from their #2 starting pitcher in Robbie Ray as he struck out 11 guys through 4.2 innings of work. Ray has to work on giving up the deep ball as he currently has given up 5 HRs on the season which has resulted in a skewed ERA compared to his actual production. The combination of relievers Fernando Salas, Andrew Chafin, Yoshihisa Hirano, Jorge de la Rosa, and T.J. McFarland came in for the remainder of the 4.1 innings as they held their own giving up only 1 earned run on 2 hits.
Washington Nationals's Latest Performance :
Championship Level Game
The Washington Nationals are good enough to go deep in the World Series, so why is this team below .500 on the season? The Nationals have had their fair share of injuries but the main problem for the Nats is that they have been inconsistent throughout the year as they have shown flashes of excellence which will be followed up with ugly games. The Nationals showed a flash of excellence on 4/25 against the San Francisco Giants as they put both facets of the game together with great hitting and great pitching. The Nationals received 15 runs on 18 hits and the most surprising thing is that Bryce Harper didn’t have one of those RBIs as the offense came from Matt Adams and Andrew Stevenson. Matt Adams has been missing most of the season as he entered this 4/25 matchup with only 2 HRs, 4 RBIs and a batting average of .189, but Adams had a huge performance as he gave the Nationals 1 HR and 6 RBIs. Adams is a guy that the Nationals had high hopes for as after the trade deadline last year Adams had 19 HRs for the Atlanta Braves. The Nationals also received 4 RBIs from the youngster Andrew Stevenson who entered the game with only 1 RBI on the season. When the Nationals can receive the offensive production that they received in this game without their best player in Bryce Harper doing much of anything the sky is the limit.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks
My reason for the pick :
Patrick Corbin has been as consistent as you can get this season and now he gets to go against a Washington team who has been all over the place this season. Arizona has also been very good on the road this season while Washington has been the complete opposite of good at home. Corbin shuts out the Washington offense in this ballgame to claim his 5th win.
