Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Cincinnati Reds vs Minnesota Twins
The Minnesota Twins open up game 2 of a 3 game series against the Cincinnati Reds in an interleague matchup. Both teams are looking to get back on track after a rough season that hasn’t reach expectations. This is the first and only series between these two teams in 2018.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Cincinnati Reds are young and have experienced some growing pains to start the 2018 season, but the Reds were able to put a small 2 game winning streak together against a pretty good Atlanta Braves team. The Reds most recently won on 4/24 where the Reds were able to receive good starting pitching as well as 9 runs from the offense which sprung them to a 9-7 win. The Reds pitched their 23-year old youngster in Tyler Mahle who gave the Reds his best effort all year as he brought a no-hitter into the 7th inning striking out 11 guys in the process. The Reds bullpen almost blew up especially Amir Garrett who has been so good for the Reds this season as he gave up 3 earned runs in only 2.1 innings of work. Scooter Gennett provided the offense for the Reds as he went 3 for 5 from the plate with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs which were his first 2 HRs on the season. The Reds need a guy like Gennett to carry a heavy load considering the current state of the roster and Gennett’s big 2017 season where he hit 27 HRs and 97 RBIs. The Reds are also happy that the face of the franchise in Joey Votto was able to homer for the first time of 2018 as it’s not only a relieving sight for the Reds but Votto as well.
Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :
The Twins have had to fly everywhere over the last week or so as they went to Puerto Rico, Tampa Bay, and New York so is jet lag an excuse for them dropping 6 out of their last 7 games, probably not. The Minnesota Twins have received terrible pitching as over the first two games of the Yankees series the Twins gave up 22 runs on 23 hits. The Twins pitched their ace on 4/24 in Jose Berrios but it didn’t go as planned for the 23-year old as he only went 4 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 6 hits. Berrios still isn’t in bad shape on the season as he has a 2-2 record with a 2.84 ERA, but given the current state of the Twins offense, you can’t expect for your best starting pitcher to give up 5 runs and still be in the game. Ryan Pressly has been the best guy out of the bullpen this season as he has pitched in 13 shutout innings striking out 18 guys, and Pressley looked good in relief for Berrios as he struck out the side in his one inning he pitched. The only guy to have a good game from the plate was 8-year 3B Eduardo Escobar who went 3 for 3 in the game with the lone RBI which helped contribute to his season totals of 2 HRS, 9 RBIs, and a batting average of .306. Every team will have their losing streaks but it’s all about how you respond to the adversity and the Twins have a perfect chance here against the Reds to play well.

Cincinnati and Minnesota both rank in the bottom 10 in team runs.
Cincinnati and Minnesota both rank in the bottom 10 in team ERA.
Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins
My reason for the pick :
The Minnesota Twins are a good team as they have the same roster from their 2017 playoff run, and after a rough road stand the best thing for this team is to return home which they get to do in this matchup. Odorizzi looked good in his first start of the season, but he met the Yankees in his 2nd matchup who have been really good as of recent. I expect Minnesota to respond with a win at home.
