Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles look to find some momentum in the 8th game of their 9 game homestand before having to travel out west for 6 games. They will play host to American League enemy in the Detroit Tigers. After this series is completed the two teams will not meet again for the remainder of the 2018 season.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
Big Offensive Day
The Detroit Tigers don’t have an offense that will be in the top 10 cone October, nor do they have an all-star caliber type player on their squad, but the Tigers enjoyed a huge offensive minded day on 4/25 against the Pirates as they scored 13 runs on 20 hits in route to a 13-10 win. The Tigers received offense from most everyone in the lineup as 7 out of the 9 guys in the batting order (including the pitcher) has an RBI. Nicholas Castellanos has been one of the best guys all year from the batter’s box and he showed just that in this matchup as he went 4 for 5 from the plate with 1 HR and 4 RBIs. The veteran Miguel Cabrera also had a fabulous game as he has been excellent from the plate all season as Cabrera went 4 for 6 from the plate with 2 RBIs. Although the offense was great from the Tigers they are still concerned about their pitching in specific starter Jordan Zimmermann. Zimmermann has shown his age this season as he entered this 4/25 matchup with a high ERA as it was a 7.71, but in this start, he had another sloppy one as he only lasted 3 innings where he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits which has his ERA now at a 7.91. The Tigers have found themselves in 2nd place in the AL Central which is something that they haven’t experienced in a while and if they want to stay put they must find consistency with their pitching.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
Will Machado Ever Cool Down?
The Baltimore Orioles have nothing positive to write about other than their stud SS Manny Machado and with Machado due to be a free agent next offseason things aren’t looking bright for the Baltimore Orioles to resign the face of their franchise. Manny Machado is well on his way to achieving his 4th all-star game this upcoming season as he has been not only one of the best hitters in all of the AL but the MLB as a whole. Machado started off the year as good as anyone, but as of recent Machado has only gotten better and better as he is coming off winning the AL player of the week. Over the last 7 games, Machado has a stat line of 5 HRs, 8 RBIs, and an amazing batting average of .500 which is better than any other Orioles stat line for the whole season. Machado has been in the MLB for 7 seasons now, but Machado has never cracked 40 HRs or 100 RBIs, but with the way he is hitting the ball in 2018, he might be able to crack his career best. The Orioles will be looking to get their slugger in Chris Davis out of his current slump as his power has been missed in 2018. Davis once upon a time was a 50+ HR guy, but in 2018 Davis only has 2 HRs and a batting average of .169 and his offensive production has been missed as Baltimore ranks in the bottom 10.

Against The Spread Selection: Detroit Tigers
My reason for the pick :
The Detroit Tigers have put together some good games together over the last week or so which has allowed this team to climb towards the top of the AL Central. The Orioles outside of Machado have been awful this season and I don’t expect Cashner to just turn it around in this matchup. Detroit wins another impressive game on the road.
