Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Los Angeles Dodgers vs San Francisco Giants
A 4-game set, which will include a Saturday double-header, against the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Francisco Giants will be played at AT&T Center in San Francisco, California, starting at 4:05 pm EST while the rubberneck game will begin at 10:05 pm EST. Currently, the Dodgers are 3rd place in the NL West division while the Giants are occupying the 4th spot in the division. This will be the 3rd series of the season amongst these two squads as they split the last 6 games in this matchup while also splitting the past 2 games in San Francisco.
Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :
The Dodgers come into this matchup winners of 7 of their last 9 games. They did, however, drop game 2 on the road to the Miami Marlins 3-2 while on Wednesday night suffered an 8-6 game 3 loss. Despite losing the Miami series, the Dodgers have been playing well recently. Prior to their letdown with the Marlins, the Dodgers were coming off a sweep in a 3-game road set versus the Padres along with a 3-1 home series win versus the Nationals on 4/22. They even won the opening game against the Marlins by a score of 2-1 on 4/23 but could not hold it together in the end. They hope to play much more inspired ball against the Giants this weekend.
The Dodgers average 4.45 runs per game (15th) with a team batting average of .239 (14th), 20 homers (23rd), along with 5 stolen bases (28th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.40 (8th) with 233 strikeouts (3rd) along with 12 quality starts (4th).
Yasmani Grandal (.328 BA on 67 AB), Cody Bellinger (.271 BA on 85 AB), and Corey Seager (.241 BA on 83 AB) have been the leaders offensively for the Dodgers this season. Chris Taylor (.240 BA on 96 AB) and Yasiel Puig (.195 BA on 82 AB) have also been pivotal to the Dodger’s offensive attack.
Hyun-Jin Ryu (3-0) has pitched 22.2 innings while allowing 5 runs on 11 hits, 1 homer, 9 walks, and 27 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.99 while Clayton Kershaw (1-3) has pitched 33 innings while allowing 9 runs on 29 hits, 4 homers, 3 walks, and 35 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.45. Alex Wood (0-2) has pitched 29 innings while allowing 14 runs on 29 hits, 2 homers, 3 walks, and 26 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.72.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
While the Giants have had to endure their share of losses early on, they have since recovered and are now winners of 4 of their last 5 games. After losing a series against the Arizona diamondbacks 2-1, the Giants won a series against the surging Angels and are currently up 2-0 in a 3-game set with the Washington Nationals. In their last 4 wins, they have outscored their opponents 20-8. They look for this momentum to continue against a team that they are familiar with and have had success against in the past.
For the season, the Giants are averaging 3.22 runs per game (28th) with a team batting average of .234 (18th), 25 homers (12th), along with 11 stolen bases on the season (17th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.28 (6th) with 183 strikeouts (20th) along with 10 quality starts (11th).
Brandon Belt (.292 BA on 65 AB), Joe Panik (.286 BA on 84 AB), and Buster Posey (.280 BA on 75 AB) have been the bright spots for the low-scoring Giants. On the other hand, Evan Longoria (.225 BA on 80 AB) has also been critical to the Giants offensive output.
Johnny Cueto (2-0) has pitched 26 innings while allow only 1 run on 13 hits, 4 walks, and 23 strikeouts with an ERA of .035 while Chris Stratton (2-1) has pitched 31 innings while allowing 9 runs on 19 hits, 10 walks, and 24 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.32. Furthermore, Ty Blach (1-3) has pitched 31.1 innings while allowing 16 runs on 34 hits, 2 homers, 14 walks, and 16 strikeouts on the year.
How Los Angeles Dodgers & San Francisco Giants Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers are 8-14 ATS while the O/U was 11-11. On the other hand, the San Francisco Giants are 15-8 ATS while the O/U is 9-14.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup between two division opponents looking to separate themselves within the National League West division. Both have played well recently as the Dodgers are 7-2 in their last 9 while the Giants are 5-2 in their last 7 contests. The Giants are great at home ATS at 6-3 for the year while the Dodgers are only 3-5 ATS on the road this season. Nonetheless, I am sure that both teams will be locked in for this 3-game set as this contest, as stated, will decide much as it relates to who has the inside track on catching the 1st place Diamondbacks in the NL West.
Totals Selection: Under
My reason for the prediction :
I will choose the under for this matchup because the under has been the play in 4 of the last 6 meetings amongst these two squads. Both the Dodgers and Giants are very familiar with each other’s offense and defensive strategies. It is for this reason that I am sure that the under should certainly be considered. Yet another reason for my taking the under is the overall strength of the Dodgers pitching staff which has the potency in which to totally shut down opposing batters.
