Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Cincinnati Reds vs Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins will close out an interleague matchup in game 3 of a 3 game series against the Cincinnati Reds. The Minnesota Twins have found themselves falling in the division as they weren’t able to buy a win on the road. The Cincinnati Reds sit in dead last in the MLB as they are the first MLB team to lose 20 games this season. This is the only series of the season between these two teams.

Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :

Starters Lose Another Game

The Cincinnati Reds aren’t even done with a quarter of the season and they have experienced a ton of losses, a new coach, and slumps out of their best players and as soon as the Reds gave us hope of their young talent showing up in their recent series against the Braves they threw it out of the window in the last game. The Reds may have lost 20 games entering this series but over their recent series against the Braves, they were able to find a revival of their franchise player in 1B Joey Votto. Joey Votto was an all-star last season as he gave the Reds 36 HRs and 100 RBIs but he entered their recent series against Atlanta with 0 HRs and 6 RBIs. Votto must have eaten his Wheaties before this series as he had 3 HRs and 7 RBIs in this 4 game set which now has him on top of the Reds in both categories in a matter of games. The Reds received a typical game from their starting pitchers as they gave up a ton of runs leaving the Reds bullpen in a bad situation. Homer Bailey who is supposed to be the Reds ace struggled in another start as he has shown his age this year. Bailey only lasted 5 innings where he gave up 4 earned runs on 7 hits which put the Reds in a bad situation before they could even blink. The Reds starters are combining for a record of 3-13 with a 5.65 ERA which will not get any team very far.

Minnesota Twins's Latest Performance :

Twins Sliding

The Minnesota Twins went from a 55 win season to a playoff team in a single year and with the Twins coming back with the same roster from their 2017 playoff run we thought the Twins would be sitting nicely in the AL Central right now. The Twins started off the year good enough to find themselves in first place through the first couple of weeks but the Twins have found themselves entering this home series on a 7 game losing streak which has dropped them into 3rd place in the AL Central. The Twins looked like they were well on their way to winning the last matchup of the Yankee series as they were up 3-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning, but the Twins saw their hopes of a win evaporate in one swing. Kyle Gibson got the start in this 4/26 matchup where he pitched well as he gave the Twins 6 shutout innings giving up only 1 hit with 10 strikeouts. Gibson who started the year off really well needed another good start as he struggled in his previous 2 starts giving up a combined 9 runs in those starts. Robbie Grossman enjoyed a good game from the plate as he went 3 for 4 with a solo shot to give him his first HR of the season. The Twins need this home series more than any other team in baseball as playing in front of your own fans in your home ballpark is the best way to rebound.

Against The Spread Selection: Minnesota Twins

My reason for the pick :

The Minnesota Twins have struggled no doubt over the last 10 games as they are 2-8 over their last 10 matchups, but the Twins get to return to their home ballpark where they have been good all season with a good pitcher on the mound against the worst team in the MLB. Berrios struggled in his last matchup but that’s because he had to go against the New York Yankees in their home ballpark where it’s hard to pitch at. Berrios will have no problem shutting down the Reds and Minnesota gets on track with a win.
