Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Tigers vs Baltimore Orioles
The Baltimore Orioles look to close out their 9th straight home game as they finish a series against American League foe in the Detroit Tigers. Baltimore has not been very good this year as they have endured one of their worst starts in franchise history. Detroit has found themselves in 2nd place in the AL Central and is looking to climb within striking distance of the leader. These two teams last met for a series from 4/17-4/19 where the Tigers swept all three games.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Tigers have been good as of recent as they find themselves entering this series in 2nd place of the AL Central which is something they haven’t experienced since the 2016 season. The Tigers have an advantage in the AL Central as outside of the Indians being the top team the next 4 spots are open as there isn’t a clear cut 2nd team. The Tigers problem all season has been their inconsistency in their pitching staff as they have endured ups and downs, but the Tigers showed their potential in a 4/26 matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Tigers and Pirates was a pitcher duel as it took until the bottom of the 9th to award a winner, and even though the Tigers dropped this game 1-0 they have to find some positives out of this. The Tigers started 3rd-year starter Michael Fulmer who had one of his best games this season as he went 6 shutout innings as well as put together 9 strikeouts in route to a no-decision. The Tigers had their chances in this game as they outhit the Pirates 8-6, but they left too many runners in scoring positions as they left 6 on. Leonys Martin has been good for the Tigers in the leadoff spot as he is batting .333 over his last 15 games and leads the Tigers in HRs with 4. The Tigers have a perfect opportunity to gain some traction in the AL Central with this matchup against the lowly Orioles.
Baltimore Orioles's Latest Performance :
Bad Outing From Ace
Buck Showalter has been the Orioles manager for 8 seasons now and he’s experienced some of the best times for the Orioles and some of the down times, but Showalter is dealt with a difficult season this year as he has injuries throughout his lineup, and the AL East is as strong as it ever was. We have continuously talked about how good Manny Machado has been for this team, but on the pitching end of things, the Orioles have a solid ace in Dylan Bundy who has been excellent in his tenure. Bundy has given the Orioles the best effort out of any starter this season, and with a 4/26 matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays, all signs were pointing to the Orioles dropping their 4 game losing streak. Bundy’s start didn’t go as planned as he struggled like never before as Bundy was only able to go 4.2 innings due to giving up 7 earned runs on 11 hits. Bundy entered this game with an ERA of 1.42 but with his struggles in this matchup, his ERA shot up and now sits at a 2.97. As bad as the Orioles were in this ball game their offense was able to get a ton of hits as they had 16 throughout the game which was led by Adam Jones who went 3 for 5 with 2 RBIs. Adam Jones has been good over the last 7 games as he has gone 11 for 30 (.367) from the plate and has chipped in 5 RBIs over this span which is what the Orioles need out of their cleanup hitter.

Against The Spread Selection: Detroit Tigers
My reason for the pick :
Can you really trust the Baltimore Orioles in any game in their current form, because I can’t. The Orioles have looked awful all year and given that their home field isn’t actually home field advantage due to their terrible play at home what edge do the Orioles have other than Machado. Detroit will come into this game with high confidence as they know they can beat the Orioles and they will succeed at just that as they cruise to a win.
