Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Seattle Mariners vs Cleveland Indians
The Cleveland Indians look to close out a home series as they are in the middle of an 11 game homestand and they will host the Seattle Mariners in an American League matchup. Both teams have been in good form as of recent as they have piled together some nice wins. This is the only series of the year between these two opponents.
Seattle Mariners's Latest Performance :
Seattle Puts Wins Together
The Seattle Mariners have been fighting around the .500 mark all season which won’t get this team into the postseason with teams like the Houston Astros and Los Angeles Angels in their division, but the Mariners were fortunate enough to get a series against the last-place team in the Chicago White Sox and win 2 out of the 3 games to give them a much-needed boost on their season. The Mariners were able to close out their 3 game series against Chicago with a 4-3 win behind solid pitching and good hitting from Nelson Cruz. Nelson Cruz gave the Mariners 2 RBIs and although he has been all over the place this season he has picked up his hitting over the last 7 games as he is batting .333. Felix Hernandez had an average game on the mound as he gave up 3 earned runs in 6 innings of work, but the bullpen came in and put out the fire. The combination of James Pazos, Juan Nicasio, and Edwin Diaz came in for 3 hitless innings striking out 6 out of the last 9 batters. Edwin Diaz has been awesome as the closer for the Mariners as he sits on top of the MLB in saves as he has 10 on the season. Diaz is in his third year as the closer of the Mariners and is coming off a pretty good 2017 campaign as he gave the Mariners 34 saves last season. The problem with the Mariners has been the inconsistency of putting both facets of the game together in one game as they have been sporadic on both ends.
Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :
Pitching Wins Again
The Cleveland Indians have struggled all season from the batter’s box as there are not many instances in where they can say they won on their bats, but here we are with the Indians sitting in 1st place which they can accredit their good start to their pitching. The Indians saw a lopsided series in a 2016 World Series rematch as they were on the losing side of a blowout in the first game but followed that performance up with a stellar pitching performance. Whatever sense of offense that the Indians have received can be accredited to the bat of 3B Jose Ramirez as he leads the team in HRs. Ramirez has 7 HRs and 12 RBIs this season and although he has a batting average of .265 he has only been struck out 7 times this season. Trevor Bauer was given the start in this 4/25 matchup and he had a great start as he was able to go 6.2 innings striking out 8 guys in the process. Trevor Bauer has enjoyed a good year as he is in his 7th professional season he holds a career low ERA in 2.41 and has struck out 35 guys on the season. The sensational closer in Cody Allen was able to do just what he has done in the last couple of years as he picked up another save to add to his season total of 5. Allen has been a 30+ save guy the last 3 seasons and given his success in the early going of 2018 it’s not a stretch to say he will reach that mark again.

Against The Spread Selection: Seattle Mariners
My reason for the pick :
If any other pitcher was on the mound for the Cleveland Indians I would back them, but they have Josh Tomlin on the match up just gave up 4 home runs to the Cubs in 3 innings to contribute to another awful year. Gonzales had a great outing last go around and even though it was against the White Sox his confidence will be high going into this matchup. Seattle wins on the road.
