St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
Cardinals Play Another Good Game
The St. Louis Cardinals have shown how good they can be as they were able to take a 3 game series from the best team in the NL in the New York Mets which has contributed to the Cardinals winning 8 out of their last 10 matchups. The Cardinals have received great efforts from not only their bats but their pitchers too especially in their ace Carlos Martinez. Martinez has started 6 games this season and although he has only received a decision in half of his starts his number show his dominance. Martinez has been one of the best pitchers in keeping his opponents off the scoreboard as he holds an ERA of 1.43 and sits towards the top of the MLB in strikeouts with 40. The Cardinals have also seen good production out of rookie Jordan Hicks who has been a sensation out of the bullpen. The 21-year old has come into relief for 13 innings in the early slate where he holds an ERA of a .69. Tommy Pham has been one of the best hitters for this Cardinals team as he shows us why he was a highly touted prospect. Pham in the final game of the Mets series went 3 for 5 from the plate which is just a small snippet of what he has done all season as Pham holds one of the best batting averages in the MLB with a .368. The Cardinals have a solid core group who no doubt can win the NL Central especially given the way that they have played as of recent.
Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :
Did Enough To Win
The Pittsburgh Pirates started the first two weeks off as hot as any baseball team and given Pirates moves this offseason where they traded their two best players away we questioned if their hot start was legit. The Pirates were able to close out a home series against the Tigers on a 2 game win streak which was needed out of the Pirates as they have lost 7 out of their last 10 games. The Pirates did just enough in the final game of the series as they were able to beat the Tigers by the score of 1-0 after Corey Dickerson propelled the Pirates to a win in the bottom of the 9th innings. Corey Dickerson has been a very effective player in picking up hits as he has one of the better batting averages on the team as he enters this series with .314, but Dickerson hasn’t found his swing in terms of the deep ball as before his walk-off HR against Detroit he only had 1 HR. The Pirates received a great game from veteran starter Ivan Nova who pitched 8 shutout innings striking out 5 guys in the process. This was a much-needed game out of Nova as he started off the year terribly as he had an ERA of 6.10 but given a string of good starts Nova has been able to get his ERA down to a 3.32. The Pirates need to continue receiving good pitching from their starters if they want to give themselves a shot at winning in the NL Central as there are plenty of bats in the division.

Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Cardinals have been hot as of recent and given their recent playoff drought the Cardinals know they cannot afford to drop games. Luke Weaver has been pretty good for the Cardinals this season and me not knowing who the Pirates are throwing has me leaning towards one of the hottest teams in baseball. St. Louis wraps up the road trip with a win.
