Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants

The Giants will hope to continue their impressive form as of late, they will welcome the San Diego Padres. Both teams have been really struggling on offense as either team isn’t able to generate runs, who has a better pitcher in this series should come out victorious.

San Diego Padres's Latest Performance :

The Padres are struggling to find their offense after the 13 run outburst but got shutout the next game that must have drained the team’s confident because in the next 3 games they were only managed to score 3 runs. The Padres currently sit in the last place in the NL West, as the team has been rebuilding for years but it seems like they are stuck in mediocrity for a while now. The Padres will be on the road for the next two games playing the Giants, they are 5-7 on the road this season.

In all the bad teams in sports, there is always seems to be one player who is always putting up great individual numbers making them the best player on a bad team and for the Padres it is Rookie Franchy Cordero who recorded his 5th homer in his rookie campaign, he also has 10 RBIs this season, he should continue this solid performance when the Padres play the Giants.

Villanueva should be featured in the Giants series, look for Villanueva to have a good game as he already racked up 7 homers already this season to go along with 6 RBIs. He led the National League with a .355 batting average prior to his injury so he is looking to bounce back with this game on the road.

Eric Lauer should be taking the pitching duty in the opener, the 22-year-old prospect was hit hard in his big league debut on a cold, wet night at Coors Field. He allowed seven runs – six earned – with six hits, four walks, and three strikeouts over three innings He’ll look for a bounce-back effort against San Francisco, but he’ll need to have better command of his quality low-90s fastball to do so.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants has been inconsistent all year long although their pitching has picked up in the last few games the Giants only allowed three or fewer runs in seven of their last eight games. The thing is with the Giants this year is that one game they play well and another game they look like a completely different team. After starting the season off on fire but things have cooled down as they are standing in the middle of the NL West group with a record of 12-13.

In the last few games, the Giants pitching lead by Johny Cueto who has an ERA of 0.35 with 23 strikeouts. He has not lost a game yet this season. Stratton should be back in action when they return home to face the Padres. He earned his second win of the season Monday night against the Nationals after delivering 6 2/3 innings of two-run ball.

As the season progresses you can clearly see that the Giants are learning how to close out games with their pitching, at the beginning of the year the Giants was hitting homers left and right winning games through their batters, now their pitchers seem to be more composed when the pressure arises allowing them to close out games.

The Giants will look to win back this series against the Padres. The Padres won in the first series meeting 3-1.

Against The Spread Selection: San Francisco Giants

My reason for the pick :

The Giants should be able to protect their home court and pull out a victory against the Padres, it will be a very low scoring game but with the Giants having the better pitcher they should come out with the victory in their 2nd series meeting this year.

Giants to win the series opener.
