Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets

The New York Mets are happy to return home to Citi Field after playing 9 games on the road as they will play host to NL East rival in the Atlanta Braves for game 1 of a 3 game series. The Braves and the Mets have met 3 times this season where Atlanta won 2 out of the 3 meetings.

Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :

Young Guys Leading The Way

The Atlanta Braves have not experienced a winning season since 2013 which also happens to be their last playoff appearance, but the buzz is different in Atlanta this year as the Braves have one of the best young teams in the MLB and have played pretty well to start 2018. The only thing that separates the Braves from making the playoffs in 2018 is the deep division they reside in as 4 out of the 5 teams can all make a run at a postseason bid. If the Braves do not make the playoffs in 2018 they will be able to take some positives into the future as they are led by young guys. Ozzie Albies may only be 21 years old but his play is telling us otherwise as he has 8 HRs and 16 RBIs to lead the Braves. The Braves have also called up their #1 prospect who is only 20 years old in Ronald Acuna and he has enjoyed a good start to his MLB career as he is batting over .462 and already has his first HR as he hit a rocket shot to the upper deck. The Braves on the pitching end of things have been led by starters Anibal Sanchez and Mike Foltynewicz as they have combined for an ERA of a 2.03 and over 47 strikeouts through their first 7 starts. On the relieving end of things, Shane Carle and Dan Winkler have been leading the team as the duo has appeared in over 24 games where they post an ERA of 1.24.

New York Mets's Latest Performance :

Another Good Pitching Game

The New York Mets have lived and died by their pitching this season as they have received some great pitching outing from their starts, but have also received some late game collapses from their bullpen. The Mets have 2 of the best pitchers in the game as they have Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom who combine for a 5-0 record, a 2.46 ERA, and 94 strikeouts which as good as any 1-2 punch in the MLB. Noah Syndergaard got the start to kick off a series against the Padres on 4/27 and he did just what he has done all season as he pitched lights out. Noah Syndergaard was able to go 7 shutout innings where he struck out 8 guys in the process to propel the Mets to a 5-1 win. The one lone run came in the bottom of the 9th from the now converted reliever Matt Harvey who has struggled this season. Harvey struggled as a starter and he hasn’t improved as a reliever as he has appeared in 3 innings giving up 2 earned runs. The Mets were able to receive offense from their 32-year old Asdrubal Cabrera who is on his way to having one of his best seasons in his lengthy career. Cabrera went 2 for 4 from the plate where he had 1 HR with 3 RBIs which has helped contribute to him having 5 HRs, 15 RBIs, and a batting average of .333.

Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Braves

My reason for the pick :

Steven Matz has not been really good this season as he has only been able to last 4 innings or less which worries me considering that the bullpen has been a disaster. The Braves have also been really good in terms of hitting the ball which plays into their hands as they Mets have not been so good in scoring runs. The Braves should be able to open the series with a win. Take the juice with Atlanta.

Betting trends for Atlanta Braves:

  • Atlanta is 2-1 against left-handed pitchers this season.

  • The over is 9-8-2 with no rest this season.

Betting trends for New York Mets:

  • New York is 10-6 in night games this season.
