Chicago White Sox's Latest Performance :
Just What They Needed
The Chicago White Sox were one of the hottest hitting teams out of the gate as the young talent they had felt fresh out of spring trainning, but the White Sox were stopped in their tracks after about 3 weeks of the season as they were struggling to put runs on the board. The White Sox were able to get just what they needed as they were able to go up against one of the worst teams in the MLB in the Kasnas City Royals where they put up 21 runs over the first 3 games of the series. Matt Davidson opened the season with 3 HRs and 5 RBIs in Kansas City, and he took off exactly where he left off as he hit 4 HRs and 6 RBIs in the first two games of their most recent series. Davidson entered the series with a .206 batting average but has since been able to extend his batting average to a .259 as he has a small 4 game hit streak. The White Sox were also able to receive some good starting pitching especially from their youngster Carson Fulmer who has struggled to get his ERA under a 7.00 through his first 4 starts. Fulmer was able to pitch 7 shutout innings giving up 4 hits in his most recent start against ther Royals on 4/28 which has lowered his ERA down to a 4.32. The White Sox made it apperant that they are not the worse team in the AL Central as they have been able to beat up on the Royals all year long.
St. Louis Cardinals's Latest Performance :
Late Game Bullpen Collapse
The St. Louis Cardinals have not had a losing season since 2007 as the Cardinals have been one of the most consitent winning franchises in their 118 season history, and the Cardinals look like they might find themselves in the playoffs once again as they have been good during the early slate of 2018. The Cardinals used a nice win streak to take a nice lead in the NL Central but with how deep the division is 3 out of the 4 other teams are under a game away from first place. No team can afford to lose games especially to divisional opponents and the Cardinals did just that as they saw a late bullpen collapse against the Pittsburgh Pirates on 4/27. The Cardinals were able to explode out to a 5-2 lead behind the bats of Marcell Ozuna (2 RBIs) and Jedd Gyorko(1 RBI), and received good starting pitching from Miles Mikolas. Mikolas was able to go 7 innings striking out 7 guys as he helped contribute to his good season where he has a 3.27 ERA as well as 27 strikeouts, but the bullpen was unable to give him the win. The Cardinals relievers gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning as Greg Holland gave up 2 earned runs on 3 hits before he can ever get an out. Holland has been one of the best closers in his 8 year career as he has had three 40+ save seasons, but 2018 hasn’t been as kind to him as Holland does not have a save and he has an ERA of 7.11.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: James Shields (1-3, 6.14 ERA) for the Chicago White Sox vs. Michael Wacha (4-1, 3.62 ERA) for the St. Louis Cardinals.
Shields last started on 4/25 agaisnt the Mariners where he went 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits in a L.
Wacha last started on 4/25 against the Mets where he went 6 innings striking out 8 guys in a W.
St. Louis ranks outside the top 10 in runs scored while Chicago ranks in the bottom 15.
St. Louis ranks inside the top 10 in team ERA while Chicago ranks in the bottom 3.
Against The Spread Selection: St. Louis Cardinals
My reason for the pick :
The Chicago White Sox were able to string a couple of wins together on the road, but that was against a team who is currently the worst team of baseball, Wacha and Shields have trended in two different directions this season as Wacha has been really good for the Cardinals this season. Shields is giving up over 6 runs again and that will not fly against a team like the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals should be able to beat on Chicago in the first game of this series as they know they can’t drop easy games like this one.
