Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Kansas City Royals vs Boston Red Sox
The Boston Red Sox are set to open another home series as they will bring in another American League opponent with this time it being the Kansas City Royals for a 3 game series. After this series is completed these two teams will not meet until 7/6 where Boston will travel to Kansas City for a 3 game series.
Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Kansas City Royals are only 3 years removed from winning the World Series but have turned into one of the worst teams in baseball as they don’t have anywhere close to the same roster that they once had. The Royals have been battling back and forth with the Chicago White Sox for the last place spot in the AL Central but after a recent series against the White Sox we have found out that the clear-cut worse team is the Royals. The Royals have only received consistent production from Mike Moustakas and Lucas Duda as they are the only two guys to be in double-digit RBIs. A guy that the Royals miss is Alex Gordon who has been fighting with injury for most of the season, but beside his injury problems has not looked like the all-star he once was. Gordon was a consistent 20+ HR guy for the Royals during their World Series runs, but last year showed the organization that he is starting to age as he only homered 9 times. Gordon has played in 11 games this year but he has yet to drive in any runs as he is only batting .211. The Royals have found one positive as starter Jakob Junis left off exactly where he did during his 2017 rookie campaign as he has an ERA of 3.34 which is the best out of any starter for the Royals. Junis has received little support from his offense which has contributed to 2 losses but 3 out of the 5 Royals wins have come from Junis.
Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :
Production From Everyone
The Boston Red Sox have enjoyed a good year as they have received some production from everyone in the lineup as well as some great pitching from the starting pitchers. The Red Sox have 8 guys on their roster who have hit more than 1 HR this season which shows the depth the batting order has as the charge is led by Mookie Betts. The game of baseball has changed from it once was as teams have started to put their top hitters in the leadoff spot as they give a much-needed boost from the gecko. Mookie Betts lead the Red Sox in HRs with 8 and sits right behind Xander Bogaerts in batting average as Betts post a .341 batting. J.D Martinez has also been great for the Red Sox as he leads the team in RBIs as he has 20 on the season and has also enjoyed a good year from the plate as he is batting .315. The Red Sox are happy that they have been able to integrate their young SS Xander Bogaerts back into the lineup as he has missed most of April with an ankle injury. Bogaerts was batting .368 before his injury and he picked up where he left off as he returned back to the lineup on 4/27 against the Rays where he went 3 for 4 from the plate to raise his season batting average to .405. These guys all reside in the top half of the lineup which shows how dangerous this Red Sox lineup can be as they have many weapons to deploy.
How Kansas City Royals & Boston Red Sox Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Kansas City is 5-19, 4-8 on the road.
Boston is 19-6, 8-2 at home.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Jason Hammel (0-2, 3.38 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals vs. Eduardo Rodriguez (3-0, 3.63 ERA) for the Boston Red Sox.
Hammel last started on 4/25 against the Brewers where he went 6.2 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 5 hits in a L.
Rodriguez last started on 4/25 against the Blue Jays where he went 6.2 innings giving up 3 earned runs on 6 hits in a W.
Boston ranks in the top 3 in runs scored while Kansas City ranks last.
Boston ranks in the top 3 in team ERA while Kansas City ranks in the bottom 5.
Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox
My reason for the pick :
Rodriguez and Hammel matchup nicely and their stat line is similar to each other, but the difference between these two pitchers is that Rodriguez is able to receive support from his top-ranked offense while Hammel has no support from his last ranked offense. Boston has cooled down after their hot start as they have been around the .500 mark over their last 10 games, but this is a perfect opportunity to get back on track as the Royals just aren’t good this year. Pick Boston to win the series opener.
