New York Yankees's Latest Performance :

Walk-Off In LA

The New York Yankees are one of the hottest teams in baseball as they entered their previous series against the Los Angeles Angels on a 6 game win streak, and entering the 9th inning down 3-2 the Yankees were looking at their winning streak coming to an end. The Yankees received great pitching from their ace Luis Severino who has been awesome for the Yankees as he was able to go 7 innings striking out 8 guys in the process. Severino is 4-1 on the season and post an ERA of 2.61 and is looking to extend on his good start as he is coming off a career year in 2017 where he appeared in his first all-star game after a 14-6 record and a 2.98 ERA. The Yankees were able to receive offense from their most consistent hitter in Didi Gregorius who hit the go-ahead HR in the top of the 10th winning to propel the Yankees to a 4-3 win, Gregorius enjoyed a good game as he went 3 for 5 with 1 RBI. Gregorius is leading the MLB in every major statistical category as he is in Triple-Crown territory as he has 10 HRs, 30 RBIs, and a .368 batting average. The other 3 sluggers on the roster which includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, and Gary Sanchez struggled in this ball game as the trio went 1 for 13 from the plate. The Yankees were able to extend their win streak to 7 games as they sit only a couple of games behind the Red Sox in the AL East.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

Keuchel Roughed Up

The Houston Astros have been one of the best pitching teams over the course of the last year as they don’t only have a deep starting rotation but have a galore of relievers they can throw at you. The Astros made the move to acquire Gerrit Cole this past offseason and Justin Verlander before their 2017 World Series run who were both aces on their former teams. They have both been awesome for the Astros as they have combined for a record of 6-1, an ERA of 1.33, and over 97 strikeouts. The emergence of these two newly acquired aces has pushed the old ace in Dallas Keuchel into a funky stage as Keuchel has struggled in 2018. Keuchel is coming off one his best seasons in his 7-year career as he went 14-5 with an ERA of 2.90, but Keuchel is now one loss away from matching his 2017 season total. Keuchel last started on 4/27 against the A’s and he got roughed up as he went 7 innings giving up 6 earned runs on 7 hits as the Astros lost 8-1. Keuchel is now 1-4 on the season and has an ERA of 4.00 as he has struggled giving up the long ball with opponents hitting 6 HRs already. Carlos Correa was able to extend on his good 2018 campaign as he delivered the lone RBI which makes him the first Astro to 20 RBIs in 2018 and Correra is also leading the Astros in batting average with a .337.

How New York Yankees & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

New York is 16-9, 5-4 on the road.

Houston is 17-10, 7-6 at home.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Jordan Montgomery (2-0, 3.76 ERA) for the New York Yankees vs. Justin Verlander (4-0, 1.38 ERA)for the Houston Astros.

Montgomery last started on 4/26 against the Twins where he went 5 innings giving up 2 earned runs on 4 hits in a ND.

Verlander last started on 4/25 against the Angels where he went 7 innings striking out 9 guys in a W.

New York is the #1 ranked team in run scored while Houston sits inside the top 10.

Houston is the #1 ranked team in ERA while New York sits outside the top 10.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

This is a bad matchup for the Yankees as they are at the bottom of their rotation and the Astros are at their top, and although Montgomery has been really good for the Yankees in the early going he has been vulnerable in the run department. The Astros are throwing their new ace in Justin Verlander who has been one of the best pitchers ever since he came over to Houston from Detroit last trade deadline. Houston should be able to get a couple of runs off Montgomery and their shaky bullpen and Verlander will do his part. Houston wins at home.
