Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets
The New York Mets return to Citi Field for game 2 of a 3 game series with a 7:10 first pitch as they will host NL East rival in the Atlanta Braves. Before this series, the Braves and the Mets met for a 3 game series where Atlanta took 2 out of the 3 games.
Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :
The Atlanta Braves have one of the youngest teams in the MLB and still host the 2nd best farm system out of the 30 teams, but the Braves have made a statement in 2018 that they are ready to compete now. The Braves have been going back and forth with the Philadelphia Phillies for the 2nd spot in the NL East, but the Braves were able to assert their dominance to close out their recent series against the Philadelphia Phillies as they won 10-1. The Atlanta Braves have been led all season by their 21-year-old Ozzie Albies who had another great game as he went 2 for 5 from the plate with 1 HR and 3 RBIs to help contribute to his team-high in HRs and RBIs as he has 9 HRs and 20 RBIs. 2nd year 3B Johan Camargo also had a good game from the plate as he went 1 for 4 with 1 HR and 3 RBIs which gave him his first HR of 2018. Brandon McCarthy got the start in this 4/29 matchup where he went 5.1 innings giving up 1 earned run while striking out 6 guys to help contribute to his perfect season as he holds a 4-0 record. The Braves received good pitching from their relievers as Peter Moylan, Sam Freeman, and Jesse Biddle came in for the remainder of the game and pitched a no-hitter in the 3.2 innings they appeared in. Biddle enjoyed a good day to close out the game as he went 2 innings striking out 5 guys.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
Big Game In San Diego
The New York Mets are seeking their 4th playoff appearance in as many as 18 seasons and they have done a good job under 1st year Mickey Callaway as they lead the NL East after the first month of baseball. The Mets showed their dominance in their recent series against the San Diego as they closed out the 3 game series with a 14-2 win behind hot bats and good pitching. The Mets started 4th-year starter Zack Wheeler who has been average at the most in 2018 as he has been vulnerable in the run department, and although Wheeler let 2 runs come across the plate he was able to strike out 9 guys in 5 innings of work. The Mets received exceptional pitching from their bullpen which is a satisfying sight for a team who has had their problems with the relievers as the combination of Paul Sewald, Robert Gsellman, and Matt Harvey was able to come in and give the Mets 4 shutout innings. Veteran Adrian Gonzalez was able to provide the offense for the Mets against his former team as he went 3 for 5 with 1 HR and 5 RBIs to give him a season total of 3 HRs and 17 RBIs in his 15th season. The Mets are hoping that superstar Yoenis Cespedes is able to recover from an injury he suffered in this 4/29 matchup as he slide into the 3rd base on a slide which caused him to jam up his thumb on the base.

Against The Spread Selection: New York Mets
My reason for the pick :
Can you really bet against Jacob deGrom? I know I can’t as he has been one of the best pitchers in 2018 as he has shown no flaws as he has dominated in every start this season. Teheran scares me as he left last game with an injury but insists he is still good to pitch in this matchup maybe because he’s in a contract year, or because he wants to get to the playoff. Either way, I don’t trust a pitcher who has had his fair share of struggles in 2018 as it is. New York keeps rolling at home.
