Kansas City Royals vs Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox return back to Fenway Park with a 1:10 first pitch to close out their home series against American League foe in the Kansas City Royals. After this game is complete these two teams won’t meet again until July 6th where Boston will travel to Kansas City for a 3 game series.

Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :

Much Needed Wins

The Kansas City Royals are a struggling franchise as they have not been able to get back on track since they won the World Series back in 2015. The Royals are in a tough territory as they have the worst farm system in the MLB, they don’t have much talent to trade and build up a farm system, and Kansas City isn’t a free agent destination which leaves the Royals with some rough upcoming seasons. The Royals will take any win at this point as anything is a positive and the Royals had a great opportunity against the White Sox to capitalize on some much-needed wins which they did as they closed out the home series on a 2 game win streak after dropping the first 3. The Royals were able to close out the series with a 5-4 win behind the arm of Ian Kennedy as he went 5 innings striking out 6 guys in the process. Kennedy has struggled to get support from his offense this season as he is 1-3 but only has an ERA of 3.48, and although he didn’t receive a decision in this matchup it was more relieving for him to see his team get a W. The runs came off the bat of Cheslor Cuthbert who went 2 for 4 with 2 HRs and 4 RBIs which account for most of his season production as in the other 20 games he only had 2 RBIs.

Boston Red Sox's Latest Performance :

Another Good Outing From Porcello

The Boston Red Sox had a rocky start to their previous series against the Tampa Bay Rays as they dropped the first 2 games, but the Red Sox were able to do what they have done all season and receive a good start from their top-end of the rotation starters. Rick Porcello has been dominant this season and he showed just that in this matchup as he went 7.2 innings striking out 6 guys which helped contribute to his perfect season as he has a 4-0 record. Porcello had a rough 2017 season where he went 11-17 with a 4.65 ERA, but 2018 has been different as he is perfect through his first 6 starts and has 38 strikeouts. The Red Sox were able to bring in one of the best closers in baseball in Craig Kimbrel who recorded his 7th save of the season after going 1.1 innings striking out 3 guys. The offense came from some familiar faces as J.D. Martinez continued to his hot start as he went 4 for 4 from the plate with 2 RBIs. Martinez has enjoyed a good first season in Boston as he has a batting average of .330 with 5 HRs and 22 RBIs. Everyone in the lineup has been great for the Red Sox, but the one position that has struggled in terms of batting is Christian Vazquez and Blake Swihart are both batting under .200 as the duo has seen over 90 ABs.

How Kansas City Royals & Boston Red Sox Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Kansas City is 7-20, 4-8 on the road.

Boston is 20-7, 9-3 at home.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

The probable starting pitchers for this matchup is as follows: Danny Duffy (0-3, 5.40 ERA) for the Kansas City Royals vs. Drew Pomeranz (0-1, 7.27 ERA) for the Boston Red Sox.

Duffy last started on 4/27 against the White Sox where he went 6 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits in a ND.

Pomeranz last started on 4/27 against the Rays where he went 5 innings giving up 4 earned runs on 6 hits in a L.

Boston ranks in the top 3 in runs scored while Kansas City ranks last.

Boston ranks in the top 5 in team ERA while Kansas City ranks in the bottom 3.

Against The Spread Selection: Boston Red Sox

My reason for the pick :

Pomeranz has been awful for the Boston Red Sox as he has not looked good since coming off injury, but Danny Duffy is nothing spetecular either which leaves me backing the better hitting team. The Red Sox have gone on an absolute tear this season as they sit only behind the Yankees in runs scored, and to their advantage, they get to go against one of the worst pitching teams in the MLB. Boston has no problem putting up runs on Duffy and win.

Betting trends for Kansas City Royals:

  • The under is 16-9-2 this season.

Betting trends for Boston Red Sox:

  • Boston is 18-4 against right-handed pitchers this season.

  • The over is 12-7 after a win this season.
