Los Angeles Dodgers vs Arizona Diamondbacks

The Arizona Diamondbacks return back to Chase Field for a 9:40 first pitch in game 3 of a 4 game series against NL West rival in the Los Angeles Dodgers. Entering this series the Diamondbacks and Dodgers have met 6 times this season where Arizona was a winner in 5 of those matchups.

Los Angeles Dodgers's Latest Performance :

No Luck For The Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not exceeded expectations in 2018 as they have found themselves in 4th place in the NL West and look well on their way to missing the playoff for just the 1st time in 6 seasons. The Dodgers made it obvious how bad this team is after dropping consecutive series to the Miami Marlins and the San Francisco Giants winning only 2 out of their combined 7 matchups. The Dodgers have felt loss this season and Dave Roberts has struggled to motivate his team especially in his youngster Cody Bellinger who was just recently benched for his lack of hustle. Cody Bellinger isn’t having a terrible year for the Dodgers as he is batting .297 with 3 HRs and 12 RBIs, but Bellinger was spoiled in his rookie year as he won rookie of the year and made an appearance in the World Series, so it’s easy seeing why this young 21-year-old struggles to find motivation to play for a losing team. A guy who has struggled for the Dodgers this season is Yasiel Puig who might find himself on another ballclub when the trade deadline approaches as he is always one of the most rumored trade pieces. Puig was just put on the DL with a hip pointer but that might be ideal for Puig who has struggled to hit the ball this season as he is batting .193. The Dodgers need to find their identity if they want to avoid one of the worse follow up seasons from a World Series finalist.

Scary Moment For Arizona

The Arizona Diamondbacks have been one of the best teams in all of the MLB as they have received a good overall effort from everyone on their team, but the Diamondbacks may have a problem arising as one of their best pitchers in Robbie Ray left the last game of their previous series with an injury. Robbie Ray is coming off a career year in 2017 where he went 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA, and Ray picked up exactly where he left off in 2018 as he started off the season 2-0 with over 45 strikeouts. Robbie Ray was put on the mound for a 4/30 matchup against the Washington Nationals tasked with closing out the series with a win which would have given the Diamondbacks a sweep. Robbie Ray looked good through the first inning as he racked up 2 strikeouts, but Ray left the game after 1.1 innings due to an oblique injury which is more than likely going to send him to the DL. The Diamondbacks already have one starter out for the rest of the season as Taijuan Walker is on the rack after undergoing Tommy John surgery, so the last thing the Diamondbacks want to have is another injury to their top 5 starting rotation. The Diamondbacks went on to lose this ball game against the Nationals as reliever T.J. McFarland gave up 2 earned runs on 5 hits which propelled the Nats to a 3-1 victory.

Against The Spread Selection: Arizona Diamondbacks

My reason for the pick :

The Arizona Diamondbacks get to return home to Chase Field where they have been so good this year against a slumping Los Angeles Dodgers team. Godley has been really solid for the Diamondbacks this season and he already has one victory against the Dodgers this season where he went 7 innings giving up 1 earned run. The Dodgers look like they have no interest in playing this season as they feel like they are already dug down deep in the NL West, and although that’s not the case I will continue to back whoever the Dodgers play. Give me Arizona.

Betting trends for Los Angeles Dodgers:

  • Los Angeles is 7-10 against right-handed pitchers this season.

  • The over is 8-4 on the road this season.

Betting trends for Arizona Diamondbacks:

  • Arizona is 13-5 in night games this season.

  • The under is 12-8-1 with no rest this season.
