Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants
Winners of 7 of their last 10 games the Giants will welcome the struggling Padres to AT&T Park as the two teams will face off in a three-game series. This will be the last homestand series for the Giants as they will get ready for a 10 game road trip.
San Diego Padres 's Latest Performance :
Coming into this series the Padres has dropped 6 of their last eight games making them the worst team in the NL West with a 10-19 record this season. It has been a disappointing season for the Padres thus far. Despite having the fourth best bullpen in the league, in the last game, they had a slip-up the bullpen gave up two straight five-run frames. Lyles allowed four runs in 1 2/3 innings Kazuhisa Makita gave up 5 including 2 homers not a good showing for the Padres bullpen. The Padres rotation sits at 5.01 frame per start.
Bryan Mitchell allowed four runs on five hits over 4 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Sunday. Mitchell wasn’t even the worst or second-worst Padres pitcher in the contest, but he was bad enough to take his third loss of the year.
The only player that remains hot for the team is Hosmer he got his 11 multi-hit games of the season as look for him to continue to be the bright spot on the team but with this very bad pitching wins will be very hard to come by for the Padres. Hosmer also recorded seven hits and seven walks in 20 plates.
Taking the pitching duties for the Padres will be Clayton Richards, lefty sinkerballer was sharp against the Mets on Friday night, recording 11 outs via the ground ball. But he was removed after just 88 pitches. He now has 3 losses this season with a 5.35 ERA this season.
San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :
After a hot start to the season, the Giants now sit at 14-14. The Giants are coming off a series win over the Dodgers making them third in the NL West standings. They are hoping to rediscover the early-season form they were projected to win a lot of games but ended up being mediocre. The Giants have won 7 of their last 10 games to get the 0.500 mark.
The Giants have been hit with an injury bug early in the season but the team must keep their head up because it takes a team effort to pull out a win in baseball. The Giants offense has been sub-par this season the team batting average dipped to 0.203 that definitely has to change if the Giants are looking to make any noise this season.
Brandon Belt is having an okay season for the Giants, not the greatest he already has 6 homers and racked up 14 RBIs this season. Belt continues to produce and reach base at a high clip, has now reached base safely in 12 straight games. He is hitting .317/.424/.610 through 24 games on the year.
Andrew McCutchen after starting off the season on fire hitting back to back homers he seemed to revert back to his old self, he is still hitting just .213 as he is struggling a bit to adjust to his new surroundings. However, he is slowly starting to piece things together. He will have a chance to redeem himself at home when playing against the Padres.
Taking the mound for the Giants will be Derrick Holland. He struck out 25 times in 25 innings but his fastball hovered around 93 mph in his last start, but that still didn’t help him survive the fourth inning. He will be looking for his first win of the after dropping his first 3 starts.
