Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :
Another Bad Outing For Starters
The Texas Rangers don’t have a lineup that can put up a ton of runs, which most teams don’t, so they rely on their starting pitchers to keep them in ball games until they can squeeze across a run or two. The Rangers are a different story though as they don’t excel in that facet of the game which has them in last place in the AL West. The Rangers best starter this season has been the oldest player in the MLB in Bartolo Colon who is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA, but outside of Colon the starting pitchers have been a mess. The combination of Cole Hamels, Mike Minor, Matt Moore, Martin Perez, and Doug Fister have posted a record of 7-13 and have an ERA of a 5.53. The Rangers are hoping that Tim Lincecum can return to his 2008 & 2009 self when he returns off the DL as he went a combined 33-12 which gave him back-to-back Cy Young awards. It may be time for the Rangers to start developing some young starting pitchers as the 7 starters on the roster average an age of 33 which is usually well out of a pitchers prime. The Rangers have also blown games with their bullpen as they have been bad as well as the combination of Kevin Jepsen and Alex Claudio have gone 0-4 with an ERA of 5.80.
Cleveland Indians's Latest Performance :
The Cleveland Indians have not been very good with their bats this season but they have been able to win games due to their deep starting rotation and a solid bullpen, but in their recent series against the Seattle Mariners, the Indians find themselves questioning their pitching as they gave up 22 runs on 26 hits. As good as the starting rotation has been this season their 5th starter in Josh Tomlin has been awful and he showed that in his recent start on 4/29. Tomlin entered his 4/29 matchup against the Mariners with a record of 0-3 and a 9.24 ERA, but only put more of a dent in his stats as he was only able to go 6 innings where he gave up 6 earned runs on 10 hits. Tomlin has the same amount of losses as the other 4 starters combined as Corey Kluber, Mike Clevinger, Trevor Bauer, and Carlos Carrasco have a record of 12-4. The Cleveland Indians need to find more offense out of Edwin Encarnacion, Jason Kipnis, Rajai Davis, and Brandon Guyer as all 4 guys are batting under .200 which is not what you want to see out of guys who crack the starting lineup more often than not. Most of the offense that the Indians have squeezed out can all be accredited to the bat of Yonder Alonso who leads the team with 8 HRs and 19 RBIs on the season.

Against The Spread Selection: Cleveland Indians
My reason for the pick :
The Indians haven’t put a ton of runs up this season but still reside in 1st place due to their amazing pitching, and all though we talked about the Indians struggle last series they have their 2x Cy Young in Corey Kluber on the mound who has been dominant this season. Cleveland needs to get back on track as things got out of hand this past weekend, and there is no better way to do that than to go against a last place team in the Texas Rangers.
