Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Atlanta Braves vs New York Mets

The New York Mets will welcome the Atlanta Braves to Citi Field as the Mets are only one game ahead of the Braves in the win column should be a fun matchup to watch as the NL East rivals go neck and neck with one another.

Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :

The Braves will hope that their new line up will work against the NL East league leaders the Mets. Coming into this game the Braves have the best offense in the NL East scoring 151 runs in 27 games to start the season. The changes that the Braves made was sending Inciarte into the No. 9 spot the move was made because the team wanted to ease off pressure the leadoff hitter. The lineup switch tells us how versatile this offense is, it’s a luxury for a coach to be able to figure out what is the teams best line up at the time. As a casual fan they will just watch one batter go by after another but if you look deep into it there is a reason why team’s line up is set up the way they are to compliment each other batting style.

Leading the Braves offense on the road against the Mets will be Ozzie Albies he has 20 RBIs and 9 homers -ties for NL East along with 3 stolen base. He is only 21 and show signs of huge potential and thriving in the Braves offense.

Pitching for the Braves will be Mike Foltynewicz He is coming off his best start of the season. The hard-throwing righty gave up just one run on three hits & two walks in six innings against the Phillies on Saturday. Foltynewicz has 39 strikeouts in 32 innings in six starts this year. He has an ERA of 2.53 this season.

New York Mets's Latest Performance :

The Mets return home after a series win against the Padres. The team is now 17-9 to start the year and currently leading the NL East.

Adrian Gonzalez minutes should go up after a terrific outing the last time he played he had 3 hits and 5 RBIs. Gonzalez hit a 3 run home run as part of a 5 run seventh inning for the Mets. Despite his good showing in the last game if you look at his batting numbers he is just .227/.312/.394 in 21 games overall. With that being said look for him to prove people wrong as he tries to string back to back quality performances to solidify himself in the starting line up.

The 14 runs with 19 hits are the highest scoring game the Mets has scored this year,  they now have figured out that their team can really hit the ball I wouldn’t be surprised if the coach point of emphasis would be on the offensive end. Asdrubal Cabrera who has hit in 13 of 14 road games will hope he can continue his impressive hitting streak at home.

The pitching of this Mets team has to improve if they want to make a deep run into the postseason because normally when the games are close the pitcher most often will determine the outcome of the game. With their best pitcher deGrom with a 2.06 ERA, it will be hard for them to compete with elites.

Taking the pitching responsibilities for this game will be Jason Vargas. He was hit hard for nine runs on nine hits – including two homers – over 3 2/3 innings against the Padres Saturday. He will look to bounce back after punishment in his first game this season. He has an ERA of 22.09.

Braves are 11-3 in their last 14 vs. a team with a winning record.

Against The Spread Selection: Atlanta Braves

My reason for the pick :

The Brave will take the second of this series on the road as the Brave will show the Mets why having an elite pitcher so important when it comes to crucial games like this one. The Braves will be able to take care business on the road and eventually taking over the NL East.

Betting trends for Atlanta Braves:

  • Braves are 4-1 in their last 5 road games.

Betting trends for New York Mets:

  • Mets are 13-3 in their last 16 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
