Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Houston Astros vs Arizona Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks will welcome the Astros to Chase Field for an interleague matchup. The D-Backs are looking to win 11th straight series as the Astros are hoping that they can stop the streak by their masterful pitching.
Houston Astros's Latest Performance :
The Astros are coming into this series as the best pitching team in the Major with an impressive 2.58 ERA as a team. The Astros have had 10 starting pitcher reach double-digit strikeouts this season which ties a Major record through 31 games. This tells us that pitching is one of the essential skills needed to become a World Series champ cause when the games are close and you will need a reliable pitcher to close out the game for the team.
Verlander has been on a tear with a whopping 62 strikeouts this season and recently tying his career high with 14 against the Dodgers he now has an impressive ERA of 1.13.
In this series, the Astros are going up against AJ Pollock as they will have to try to slow him down but with how the Astros are pitching right now it won’t be easy for Pollock to perform the way he is accustomed too.
Altuve and Correa will have to match AJ Pollock offense if he does have a good game and the Astros are having a bad pitching game. Both Correa and Altuve combined for 36 RBIs this season.
Taking the hill for the Astros will be Gerrit Cole, he struck out 12, allowing three runs over 6 2/3 innings. Cole is coming off an impressive month of April striking out 61 – the best in the Major. He’s 2-1 with a 1.73 ERA and 0.79 WHIP through six starts. He will look to start off May with another masterful performance.
Arizona Diamondbacks's Latest Performance :
The D-Backs are leading the NL West quite comfortably and should remain there for a very long time. The D-Backs are 21-8 after 29 games for the first time in club history. The D-Backs are on pace to do something really special this year. During this streak, the D-Backs have helped each other win games there is no ego on the team if one player is not having a good game another player will fill the void right away total team effort, everyone is stepping up in order to keep this streak going.
David Peralta is still listed day by day but I guarantee that he doesn’t want to miss a chance to play against the Astros as he has been on a tear before the injury he has 5 homers and 17 RBIs this season.
AJ Pollock will continue his impressive form as he added 3 more homers this season giving him a total of 10 this year to go along with that he has 25 RBIs and 7 stolen bases. He has four homers against left-handed pitching and six homers against right-handed pitchers. AJ Pollock is definitely an MVP candidate this season. As he will look forward to the challenge to play the Astros who are the best pitching team in the league right now.
Pitching for the D-Backs should be Zack Greinke. He struck out 10 in six innings of work in a win over the Dodgers on Monday. He allowed just two runs on four hits, and he walked two. He also helped himself in this one with the bat, going 2-for-2 with an RBI single. He struck out 42 this season after an impressive last game his ERA dropped to 4.50.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros
My reason for the pick :
It will be a very entertaining matchup between the Astros and the D-Backs, but I have to go with my philosophy pitching will win you baseball games no matter how good the batter is and considering how good Cole was in the month of April I expect him to carry his impressive form into May as well.
Astros to win game 1 over the D-Backs, as this win will put the D-Backs series win streak in jeopardy.
