Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Tigers vs Kansas City Royals
The Tigers will go on the road as they will face off against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium. This will be the third meeting between these two teams this year. So they will be very familiar with one another.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Tigers are coming off a series win against the Rays at home. The Tigers come in ranked 17th in pitching with an ERA of 4.17. The Tigers are just 3 games behind the Royals for the top spot in the AL Central. The Tigers were able to pull out a walk-off win against the Rays as that game went into extra innings.
Cabrera should return for the Tigers after he was out for three games because of Biceps soreness. Miguel Cabrera will continue his impressive run to start the season as he is batting 0.326 and 21 RBIs which leads the team.
Look for John Hicks to carry his impressive play on the road, he is batting average is at .219 with 2 homers and 5 RBIs this season Hicks reached base three times in the win and scored in the fifth inning after leading off the frame with a single to right field.
The Tigers will have a chance to have a winning record again if they are able to go for the sweep against the Royals at home. The Tigers will have a chance to redeem themselves after they have lost 9 of their 11 games to the Royals.
Pitching the Tigers will be Jordan Zimmermann. He relied less on his fastball and more on his slider and curveball and played out his best outing since August with seven scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Rays. He allowed just two hits in one of his best starts as a Tiger. He still has a 5.81 ERA for the year, but that comes with a nice 27/6 K/BB ratio in 26 1/3 innings.
Kansas City Royals's Latest Performance :
The Royals must feel good returning back home. They were able to win one game on the road against the Red Sox. The Royals went neck and neck against an elite team, in three games that they played the Royals only gave up 10 runs, definitely something the Club can build on in the future. The Royals are 27th in the league in batting scoring only 102 runs through 29 game played this season.
Leading the way for the Royals will be Jorge Soler, he hit a 3 run homer that led the Royals to a victory against the Red Sox. His batting average is 0.315 with 9 RBIs. The Royals are an average hitting them they can put up runs but the real problem lies in their pitching the Royals are a team that often falls behind early and the batters will have to play catch up and end up falling short costing them the game. They can’t afford to go behind against the Tigers. The Royals are ranked 28th in the league in pitching with a 5.28 ERA.
The Royals might have gotten away with pitching problems in the past when playing against weaker teams but the Royals got exploited when playing against the Red Sox where Danny Duffy gave up 3 homers to one player Mookie Betts, something the team must work on in the future.
Taking the Mound for the Royals will be Jason Hammel gets the start in the third game of the series. Hammel had a 2.33 ERA in his four previous starts before getting roughed up for eight runs over 4 2/3 innings on Monday in Boston.
