Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Toronto Blue Jays vs Tampa Bay Rays
The Rays will welcome the Blue Jays to Tropicana Field as the NL East rivals will face off in a 3 game series.
Toronto Blue Jays's Latest Performance :
The Blue Jays are coming off a series win against the Twins despite losing their last game. The Blue Jays have now dropped to 3rd in the standings after they went on a 4 game losing streak that really cost them. The Blue Jays will continue there 5 game road trip as they face off against the Rays. Coming into this series the Blue Jays are 16th in pitching with a 4.15 ERA and 4th in batting with an impressive 145 RBIs scored already this season.
Justin Smoak is the team leading RBIs with 18 and has 4 homers under his belt already this season. Sometimes the best batters have their bad days, as well as the whole Blue Jay line up, were held scoreless in their last outing. A great batter won’t let a bad day get to his head he has to believe in his mechanics and consciously know that there are good days and bad days in baseball. The Blue Jays had plenty of opportunities to capitalize but instead, they went 0 for 5 with 7 men left on base. Look for the Blue Jay batters to redeem themselves on road against the Rays.
The Blue Jays have outscored their opponents on the road, 63-60 this season but have been out hit, 129-120. The Blue Jays will be just fine scoring against the Rays.
Aaron Sanchez will be starting for the Blue Jays. He has already surpassed last year’s innings total following a lost season with blister issues. He has at least six innings in each of his last five starts and is 1-1 with a 1.24 ERA in 11 career appearances vs. the Rays.
Tampa Bay Rays's Latest Performance :
The Rays are coming off a tough walk-off loss against the Tigers. As they will now return home to face their AL East rivals the Blue Jays, the Rays are only 3 losses behind the Blue Jays for third place in the standings. The Rays has started the season 13-16.
Blake Snell fell short of picking his 5th win in a row, he allowed two earned runs on five hits across 6 2/3 innings while striking out four. Snell is now 4-1 on the season he has an ERA of 2.55 with 45 strikes out this season. Look for him to play with a chip on his shoulder as he failed to grab is 5th win in a row because he knows that he could have done better, even the coach stated after the game that it was his mistake to pull Snell out too early ultimately that cost them the game. Despite taking a no-decision on Wednesday Snell is 4-0 with 1.89 ERA and 38K in 5 starts. When Snell starts again look for him to play his best game yet.
Wilson Ramos was 3 for 5 giving the Rays an RBI single in the first inning. His batting average is now an impressive 0.313 with 4 homers and 14 RBIs.
The Coach will have to be more decisive when it comes to his decision making because when playing against the Blue Jays the stakes will be high and there will be no room for error.
Jake Faria will be pitching for the Rays in this game. He turned in the best start of his young career Monday at Detroit, with eight shutout innings and six strikeouts. He allowed just four baserunners, on three hits and a walk. Faria went 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA against the Blue Jays last season.
