Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

San Francisco Giants vs Philadelphia Phillies

Two evenly matched teams will go face to face in a three-game series, the Phillies will welcome the Giants to Citizen Bank Park. Both teams have been playing really well as this should be a really competitive series with only one team can come out on top.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants are starting to pick things up after a slow start to the season they have an improved record of 17-15 two games above .500. The Giants was able to put up 6 runs in the 2nd inning this tells us that if the pitcher doesn’t bring their A game the Giant batters can score and put on an offensive show.

Brandon Crawford went 3 for 5 with a homer after a rough start to the year where he went 7 for 51 he hopes to continue to put up these kinds of numbers as the season goes on. The Giants were able to take down the hot Braves with Chris Stratton leading the crew, he only allowed three runs on six hits with six strikeouts. The Giants will hope to build on that win when they visit Philadelphia. Longoria also contributed with a solo homer giving him his 7th of the year.

The Giants are starting to show signs of how good they can become because they can really put up points on the board the talent is there they just have to build team chemistry and trust in their own abilities that they are able to pull off these kinds of performances on a regular and it doesn’t matter who they play.

Pitching for the Giants will be Chris Stratton. He struck out six and walked a pair in his last start and now sits at 3-2 with a 3.99 ERA and 33/16 K/BB ratio in 38 1/3 innings over seven starts this season. He is starting to regain his confidence after a slow start to the season.

Philadelphia Phillies's Latest Performance :

The Phillies has started the year hot but things are starting to cool down for them as they now have a record of 17-14 to start the year. Coming into this series the Phillies are 13th in batting with 140 runs scored this season. This Phillies team can compete with any team in the league when it comes to batting they just need to find the consistency.

Cesar Hernandez has become one of the best leadoff hitters in the league. He has swung at just 16 percent of pitches outside the zone this season. His slash is .284/.046/.413 with 3 homers to go with 11 RBIs to start this season, Hernandez is 27 he is just starting his prime year so it will be very interesting to see how he progress as a player in the future. Look for Cesar to have an impact when playing the Giants at home.

The Phillies are 9th in the league in pitching with 3.70 ERA. However, starter Nick Pivetta has hit the wall after he suffered the shortest start of his career allowing five hits, six runs, three walks, two home runs and striking out only one all of this he managed to do in one inning. With these kinds of number, it is probably best for Pivetta to go to the bullpen for a couple of games. After that awful first inning, his ERA ballooned to 4.76.

Carlos Santana finally ended his home run drought he now has 3 homers to start the year it was his first homer since April 7th, he will hope to start a homer streak when he plays against the Giants.

Odubel Herrea is off to great season for the Phillies he is batting .330/.387/.473 through 31 games. He already has a multi-homer under his belt the Giants will have to come up with a game plan to contain him.

Aaron Nola will be pitching for the Phillies. He continues to establish himself as one of the best starters in baseball. His changeup is helping him get there. He threw the pitch a career-high 30 times in his last start against Miami. It got a career-high 11 swings and misses.

Against The Spread Selection: San Francisco Giants

My reason for the pick :

I’m rolling with the Giants in this game even though the Phillies are a better team. The Giants have been on a tear lately they can put up numbers in a hurry and when Stratton is playing the batters usually play well. Stratton to put up masterful numbers on the road in this game as the Giants will beat the Phillies.

Betting trends for San Francisco Giants:

  • Giants are 15-31 in their last 46 road games.

Betting trends for Philadelphia Phillies:

  • Phillies are 7-3 in their last 10 games following a loss.
