Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Detroit Tigers vs Texas Rangers
The finale of a 3-game set between the visiting Detroit Tigers and the Texas Rangers will take place on Monday at 8:05 pm EST at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas. The Detroit Tigers occupy the 2nd spot within the AL Central division while the Texas Rangers are 5th and last place within the AL West division. This will be the 1st meeting of the year amongst these 2 teams, however, the Rangers have owned the Tigers recently in winning 5 of the last 6, including 3-straight in Arlington, Texas.
Detroit Tigers's Latest Performance :
The Detroit Tigers continue to trade wins for losses as they are currently losers of 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 1-4. After and awful series loss to Baltimore on 4-29, the Tigers began to find their rhythm at home against the Tampa Bay Rays as they picked up the 2-1 series win. Nonetheless, they followed up their 3-2 against the Rays with a 4-game series loss to the Kansas City Royals on 5-6-2018.
Currently, the Tigers are averaging 4.30 runs per game (20th) with a team batting average of .257 (6th), 26 homers (29th), along with 14 stolen bases (19th). Their pitching staff possesses an ERA of 4.17 (16th) with 247 strikeouts (27th), along with 15 quality starts on the year (8th).
Miguel Cabrera (.323 BA on 93 AB), Nicholas Castellanos (.311 BA on 132 AB), and Leonys Martin (.287 BA on 122 AB) spearhead the Tiger offensive attack. Jeimer Candelario (.281 BA on 128 AB) along with Victor Martinez (.257 BA on 101 AB) have also been solid as well this season.
Michael Fulmer (1-2) has pitched 35.1 innings this year while allowing 14 runs on 36 hits, 3 homers, 9 walks, and 27 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.80 while Matthew Boyd (1-3) has pitched 36 innings while allowing 12 runs on 29 hits, 3 homers, 9 walks, and 26 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.00. Francisco Liriano (3-1) has pitched 36.1 innings while allowing 12 runs on 23 hits, 3 homers, 16 walks, and 26 strikeouts with an ERA of 2.97.
Texas Rangers 's Latest Performance :
The Texas Rangers have lost 4 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 3-2. After winning a 3-game road set over the Toronto Blue Jays on 4-29, the Rangers went on to lose to the Cleveland Indians in a 3-game road set on 5-2. In addition, they lost yet another series, this a 4-game home set versus the Boston Red Sox. In all, the Rangers certainly need some positive momentum to flow through their dugout as they have really struggled all season long, thus explaining their last place standing in the AL West division.
For the season, the Rangers are averaging 4.09 runs per game (22nd) with a team batting average of .235 (22nd), 43 homers (7th) along with 13 stolen bases (24th). Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.93 (25th) with 262 strikeouts (23rd) along with 11 quality starts on the season (26th).
Adrian Beltre (.310 BA on 87 AB) and Nomar Mazara (.285 BA on 130 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Rangers thus far. On the other hand, Shin-Soo Choo (.252 BA on 135 AB) and Joey Gallo (.223 BA on 130 AB) have also been solid all-season long.
Cole Hamels (1-4) has pitched 45.2 innings this season while allowing 24 runs on 44 hits, 9 homers, 18 walks, and 52 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.94. Bartolo Colon (1-1) has pitched 38.1 innings while allowing 14 runs on 29 hits, 3 walks, 8 homers, and 25 strikeouts with an ERA of 3.29.
How Detroit Tigers & Texas Rangers Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
For the season, the Detroit Tigers are 14-19 ATS while the O/U is 13-20. On the other hand, the Texas Rangers are 13-22 ATS while the O/U is 19-14-2.
In-Depth Analysis of each team:
This will be an interesting matchup of two teams that have had their fair share of struggles this season. The Tigers continue their road trip in hopes of obtaining a couple wins against an inconsistent Ranger team while the Rangers look to continue their dominance over Detroit at home while making up some ground in a tough AL West division. The Rangers have played well in this series, however, for them to get a win in this matchup, they must be able to continue to make contact at home plate along with ensure that their pitching continues to be relatively solid. On the other hand, the Tigers have not played as well in this series, however, have a legitimate shot at winning on Wednesday if they can somehow put in 9 innings of solid and balanced baseball, something they have not been able to do thus far in the 2018 campaign.
Against The Spread Selection: Texas Rangers
My reason for the pick :
The Rangers are 7-3 in their last 10 matchups versus the Detroit Tigers and I expect Texas to, once again, win the finale of this matchup on Wednesday. Again, while each team has struggled, I simply like the Rangers more at home that are playing relatively decent at this time than a Detroit Tiger team on the road that has not played well recently, at all. Again, while it may not be very pretty to watch, the Rangers will squeak out a huge win and will hopefully continue to gain some much-needed confidence along with way.
