Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
Miami Marlins vs Chicago Cubs
The Cubs will be glad that they are returning home as they hope to end their 5 game skid against the Marlins. The Marlins will have other ideas as they will try to win their 5th straight series.
Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :
Coming into this series the Marlins have notched their 4th straight series win as they aim for their 5th against the struggling Cubs who has now lost 5 games in a row. The Marlins after their 4 straight series wins is starting to climb the rankings they are now 23rd in pitching with a 4.50 ERA, they are now 3 games behind the Nationals in the lost column. Although they are still ranked last in batting scoring only 113 runs they are now only 2 runs behind the Orioles.
Starlin Castro went 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored. He is hitting .315/.364/.395 through 33 games with the Marlins. Coming off the first homer a few days ago he has continued to impress look for him to fill up the stat sheet against the Cubs. He has been playing really well for the Marlins right now and things can’t get any better for Castro.
Justin Bour got yet another solo homer for the Marlins he now has 6 homers on the year which leads the team. He is slashing .240/.342/.448 and has driven in 15 runs in 30 games. He was dealing with a back issue at the beginning of the month but he has been playing through it and been doing just fine.
This is a great opportunity for the Marlins to prove to themselves that they can compete with anyone in the Major after a terrible start to the year things are starting to fall into place for the Marlins, as they aren’t bad after all.
Pitching on the road for the Marlins will be Wei Yin Chen. He got hurt by back-to-back 1st-inning homers in his last start on Friday in Cincinnati. He also walked 4 batters over 4 innings in his 2nd start since returning from the DL. Chen will make his 1st career appearance at Wrigley Field.
Chicago Cubs's Latest Performance :
The Cubs have now lost 5 straight games coming into this series against the Marlins. They will hope to break their losing streak when they play the Marlins since they are back home. It won’t be easy as they think because the Marlins has been playing really well lately. The Cubs are 7th in pitching with a 3.45 ERA and 13th in batting with 147 runs scored this season.
Javier Baez now has 29 RBIs this season tied for tops in the National Leauge, the Cubs weren’t able to end the losing streak despite Baez solo homer giving him his 9th of the year. The game was tied at 2-2 apiece in the 7th inning before Baez struck a Mike Mayers throw over the fence in center finishing the night 2-for-6. He’s now slashing .286/.331/.639.
Despite Baez great season the Cubs now have struggled to score 14 runs are they are 4 for 39 when runners are in scoring position. One player can do so much for the team but other players on the team have to step up as well. In the 12th innings, they went 0 of 9 with runners in scoring position. The Coach must change the rotation of the batters because these kinds of numbers are unacceptable after the way the Cubs started the season.
Kris Bryant will need to step up his game at home after going 1 for 6 picking up his 4th homer of the year, Baez could really use someone that could help carry the Cubs offensive load and Bryant might just be the batter to do so as they are trying to end their 5 games skid. Bryant is slashing .272/.397/.515 this season.
Pitching for the Cubs will be Jose Quintana. he will look to bounce back after his loss against the Marlins on April 1st, He had trouble getting into a good rhythm in his last outing against the Cardinals and needed 88 pitches to get through four innings. He has a 4.99 ERA and 27 strikeouts this season.
