Pick, Prediction, & Preview:
New York Mets vs Cincinnati Reds
The Mets are desperately in need of a new environment as they will hit the road after going winless in their homestand The Mets are set to play the Reds who has also been struggling all year. These two teams will face off in a 3 game series.
New York Mets's Latest Performance :
The Mets have now lost 6 straight games, The Mets averaged 1.8 runs per game on their winless homestand, they will be glad to hit the road and face a bad team the Reds. This is still the same Mets team that opened the season 11-1. Despite their 6 games skid the Mets still have a decent record at 17-15 one game behind the Braves in the lost column. The series sweep caused by the Braves really hurt their standings.
Asdrubal Cabrera will have to pick things up offensively for the Mets in their 5 game road trip. He now has 21 RBIs to go along with a .333/.382/.577 slash line. He also has 6 homers this year.
I expect Yoenis Cespedes to play against the Reds as the veteran is the team leader in RBIs and homers this year and the team will need his production as they are trying to bounce back from their 6 game skid and hopefully start a new winning streak, playing against the Reds would be a great confidence booster for Yoenis as he was terrific to start the year and he will try to bring the Mets back in the win column again.
Pitching for the road team will be Zack Wheeler. He must improve quickly if he is to remain in the Mets’ rotation. His last outing was one of the worst of his career, matching his career high with eight earned runs. His next will come in Cincinnati, where he is 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA.
Cincinnati Reds's Latest Performance :
The Reds are having a horrific start to the year, they managed to only 8 games so far this season and things don’t look like it will get better anytime soon. Coming into this series the Reds are 24th in batting with 133 runs scored this season but their main problem lies in their pitching it is the reason why they haven’t been winning games this season, the Reds are currently ranked last with an ERA of 5.27.
Their pitching struggles continue as Brandon Finnegan was removed just after 3 1/3 innings giving up 5 runs he has been on a slump lately and can’t seem to get anything right for the Reds. Finnegan allowed four hits and walked three in the short outing, falling to 0-3 with the loss. He’s now walked 15 in 20 2/3 innings.
Adam Duvall seems to the only player who wants to win the Reds Uniform he starting to show signs of improvements after he bagged another homer the last time he played although Duvall has really struggled at the plate this season, hitting just .167/.248/.380 with five homers and 16 RBI. I expect him to rediscover his old form soon because this Reds team aren’t going anywhere soon.
Pitching for the Reds at home is Sal Romano mostly cruised through 5 1/3 innings in a win on Friday vs. the Marlins. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits. Romano did, however, regret making a barehanded play on a hard grounder and was treated for swelling the next day but is expected to be fine.
How New York Mets & Cincinnati Reds Matchup.
Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:
Reds are 20-41 in their last 61 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.
Mets are 7-1 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of less than .400.
Against The Spread Selection: New York Mets
My reason for the pick :
The skid will finally be over for the Mets, they will start winning games again as they should be able to pick up a win against the Reds who are just playing really bad at the moment and aren’t showing signs that they are going to improve. The Mets offense will look to come alive again after averaging a ridiculous 1.8 runs over the 6 games. It is a blessing in disguise for the Mets to be playing the Reds at this time. The Mets couldn’t ask for a better opponent to play against after their worst stretch of the year.
Mets to end their losing streak and win on the road.
