Milwaukee Brewers's Latest Performance :

Brewers Sloshed

The Milwaukee Brewers were able to put a nice win streak together against the Marlins, Reds, and Royals to climb towards the top of the division, but the Brewers have not been as hot as of recent as they lost 5 out of their 6 games against the Cubs and Pirates, two teams who are chasing Milwaukee in the standings. Milwaukee was not able to close out their series against the Pirates on a good note as they gave up 9 runs but also received little production from their offense as they were only able to squeeze out 2 hits. Chase Anderson has been average to start the season, and he extended to his average season by getting sloshed in his start against the Pittsburgh Pirates as he was only able to give the Brewers 5.1 innings as he gave up 5 earned runs. The bleeding didn’t stop after Anderson left the game as the combination of Jacob Barnes and Jorge Lopez was only able to give the Brewers 2.2 innings as the duo got shelled for 3 earned runs on 7 hits. A bad outing from Barnes is unusual as he has been one of the best relievers out of the bullpen for the Brewers as he entered the 5/6 matchup with a solid ERA of 1.65. The Brewers are missing the production out of Eric Thames who is on the 10-day DL with a thumb injury as Thames leads the team in HRs with 7. The Brewers were only able to record 2 hits in their 5/6 matchup as Domingo Santana and Hernan Perez went 2 for 3 with a single each.

Colorado Rockies's Latest Performance :

Rockies Red Hot

The Colorado Rockies have been one of the hottest teams in baseball as they were able to enter their recent home series on a 5 game win streak after sweeping one of the better teams in the MLB, the New York Mets. The Rockies were able to close out their series against the Mets with a solid effort from both their starting pitchers and relievers as the Rockies won 3-2. Kyle Freeland has been sluggish to start his 2nd-year off as he entered his start against the Mets with a 1-4 record as well as an ERA of 4.24, but Freeland was able to put together a solid outing as he went 7 innings striking out 8 guys in what was his 2nd win of the season. Freeland also received great support from the solid Rockies bullpen as the combination of Bryan Shaw, Jake McGee, and Adam Ottavino closed out the final 2 innings striking out 5 guys. It is a relieving sight for Bryan Shaw and Jake McGee to give the Rockies some quality innings as the duo has struggled in the 29 innings they have pitched in as they combine for an ERA of 5.87. The Rockies run support can be accredited to the bat of 10-year veteran Ian Desmond who was able to give the Rockies 2 solo HRs to bring his season total up to 6. Desmond has enjoyed a solid year in 2018 as he is only 1 HR short of his 2017 total as he was only able to finish with 7 in 95 games.

Against The Spread Selection: Colorado Rockies

My reason for the pick :

The Colorado Rockies have been one of the hottest teams in the MLB as they have put together a nice win streak to propel themselves to the top of the early Wild Card race. Marquez and Chacin are both coming off solid starts as they gave up little runs, but the difference in this ballgame is the better bats as Coors Field can make any pitcher look bad. Coors Field usually favors the better hitting team and Milwaukee is already a sluggish team in terms of hitting and without Eric Thames I can’t get myself to back them. Colorado keeps the hot winning streak rolling and wins.
