Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Atlanta Braves vs Miami Marlins

Game 2 of a 4-game set between the visiting Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins will take place on Friday at Marlins Park in Miami, Florida, at 7:10 pm EST.  The Braves occupy the top spot in the NL East division while the Marlins are in 5th place.  This will be the 1st matchup amongst these two teams all year, however, the Braves have won 11 of the last 19 head to head matchups while losing 5 of their last 9 at Marlins Park.

Atlanta Braves's Latest Performance :

In the last 3 series, the Braves made light work of the Philadelphia Phillies in winning a 3-game series while following up this series by sweeping the New York Mets on 5-3-2018.  Nonetheless, the Braves were then swept at home by the San Francisco Giants on 5-6-2018.  In all, the Braves have lost 3 of their last 5 games to there the O/U was 3-2.  The Braves did, however, get back on track on Tuesday night with a slim 1-0 win on the road versus the Rays in game 1 of the 2-game set.  In all, the Braves simply look to get back on track with some wins against a team that they have struggled with on the road.

For the season, the Braves are averaging 5.48 runs per game (3rd) with a team batting average of .274 (1st), 39 homers (13th) along with 24 stolen bases (5th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 3.76 (10th) with 309 strikeouts (11th) along with 21 quality starts on the season (18th).

Freddie Freeman (.307 BA on 127 AB), Nick Markakis (.344 BA on 131 AB), Ryan Flaherty (.310 BA on 87 AB), and Ozzie Albies (.285 BA on 144 AB) have been the offensive stars for the Braves all season.  Dansby Swanson (.289 BA on 114 AB) and Ender Incarte (.254 BA on 138 AB) have also been consistent at the plate for the Braves.

Mike Foltynewicz (2-2, 37 IP, 17 R, 33 H, 4 HR, 17 BB, 43 SO, 3.65 ERA) and Brandon McCarthy (4-1, 35.1 IP, 21 R, 43 H, 5 HR, 13 BB, 27 SO, 4.84 ERA) have been bright spots on the mound for the Braves this year.  Sean Newcomb (2-1, 34.2 IP, 16 R, 29 H, 3 HR, 15 BB, 42 SO, 3.38 ERA) and Julio Teheran (2-1, 37 IP, 15 R, 28 H, 6 HR, 18 BB, 35 SO, 3.65 ERA have also been solid for Atlanta in 2018.

Miami Marlins's Latest Performance :

As recently as early last week, the Marlins had been playing well winning 6 of 7 games, however, since then, they have lost 3 of their last 5 games to where the O/U was 2-3.  Nonetheless, they have won their last two series at home against the Philadelphia Phillies on 5-2-2018 and on the road in a 3-game set against the Cincinnati Reds on 5-6-2018.  Most recently, the Marlins were blasted on the road in game 1 of a 3-game set against the Chicago Cubs by a score of 14-2 while also losing game 2 by a slim 4-3 score.

For the season, the Marlins average 3.38 runs per game (30th) with a team batting average of .225 (29th), 24 homers (30th) along with 8 stolen bases (28th).  Their pitching staff has an ERA of 4.79 (23rd) with 307 strikeouts (12th) along with 11 quality starts (25th).

Starlin Castro (.307 BA on 127 AB), Brian Anderson (.260 BA on 123 AB), and Justin Bour (.231 BA on 104 AB) have been the offensive superstars for the Marlins this year.  Derek Dietrich (.235 BA on 132 AB) and Miguel Rojas (.242 BA on 124 AB) have also been critical components to the Miami offensive attack.

The Marlin pitching staff has been very inconsistent this year, however, Jarlin Garcia (1-1, 37 IP, 11 R, 21 H, 5 HR, 15 BB, 26 SO, 2.68 ERA) and Jose Urena (0-5, 40 IP, 20 R, 40 H, 4 HR, 11 BB, 32 SO, 4.28 ERA) have pitched the most inning for the Marlins this year.

How Atlanta Braves & Miami Marlins Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

For the season, the Atlanta Braves are 19-14 ATS while the O/U is 16-14-3.  On the other hand, the Miami Marlins are 16-18 ATS while the O/U is 16-18.

In-Depth Analysis of each team:

This matchup will showcase a set of NL East division teams where one has been on fire lately, yet, losing their last 3, while the other, despite losing a game here and there, is continuing to play well, for the most part.  It should be mentioned once again that the Braves have had the edge in this matchup in recent meetings, however, the Marlins have been very successful at home in the past.  It is for this reason that this game will certainly be an interesting and competitive game in which to watch.

Against The Spread Selection: Miami Marlins

My reason for the pick :

The Braves have finally lost a bit of momentum in dropping their last 3 games, however, they have since picked up a huge momentum building win in game 1 against the Rays on Tuesday night and remains a dangerous team, nonetheless.  The Marlins have lost some games recently as well and have not been able to string together some wins in which to increase their position in the NL East division.  This series, in my opinion, can certainly allow the Marlins to attain that objective as they have really played well against the Braves at Marlins Park.  It is for this reason that I will side with the Marlins to pick up yet another victory against the Braves at home on Friday.
