Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

Texas Rangers vs Houston Astros

The Astros will return home to Minute Maid as they will welcome the Rangers to play a 3 game series. The Astros are first in the AL West while the Rangers are last.

Texas Rangers's Latest Performance :

The Rangers are coming off a lost against the Tigers as they will go on the road to play the World Series Champs Houston Astros. Coming into this series the Rangers are 14th in batting with 151 runs scored this season, the Rangers are currently the last place in the very tough AL West division with a record of 14-24. The problem of the Rangers lies in their pitching where they are ranked 27th with an ERA 4.96. They must do a much better job pitching the ball at the start of the game because you never want to play catch up in a game of baseball.

Adrian Beltre returns to the Rangers line up after being on the DL list (hamstring) since April 25th. He went  3-for-4 and 2 RBIs, he is currently 39 years of age and is still able to perform at this type of level is really impressive, he would love to play well against the World Series Champs to prove that he still got what it takes to play in the major. He’s hitting .330 in his 91 at-bats this year.

Nomar Mazara went 1 for 3 tonight with one walk and wasn’t able to play up to his own standards however he is having a great year for the Rangers he has 8 homers and 24 RBIs this season with 38 games played he is slashing .288/.349/.504. With Beltre back in the squad, he should be able to pick up some great traits from Adrian. Although this season of the Rangers has been quite a disappointment doesn’t mean there isn’t any room for players to improve and work on their craft. If Mazara continues to hit the way that he does the Rangers might have found themselves a star in the making.

Pitching for the Rangers will be Cole Hamels. He is 0-3 with a 4.11 ERA in his last six starts since his only win on April 3. He is 0-1 with a 3.86 ERA in two starts against the Astros this year and 7-5 with a 4.16 ERA in 18 career starts against them.

Houston Astros's Latest Performance :

The Astros are coming off a series sweep against the A’s. The Astros were able to rediscover their form after losing the series to the D-Backs, they responded by putting up 16 runs in 2 games. The Astros will now return home for a 3 game series against the Rangers. Although the Astros are still leading the AL West they have the Angels right behind them in the standings. The Astros are the best team in pitching and 3rd in batting, in the last few games, they showed us why they are the World Series Champion.

George Springer has been on an offensive tear lately for the Astros after going 6 for 6 with 3 RBIs in his previous outing he responded with 2 more RBIs as he went 2 for 4, with a single, a double and a walk with two RBI over four at-bats. The Astros couldn’t ask for a better time for Springer to get hot.  He is now slashing .297/.358/.513. It’s his first time this season recording multi-RBI games in consecutive starts. Things won’t be looking good for the Rangers if he is able to carry these performances back to Minute Maid.

Alex Bregman will hope that he can finally hit a homer at Minute Maid. All three of Bregman’s homers so far this season have come away from home, and 18 of his 30 career majors league bombs have been on the road, he is slashing .259/.372/.403 with 16 RBIs this season.

It is safe to say that the Astros are back and aren’t giving up their ranking to the Angels anytime soon you can bet on that.

Charlie Morton will return to the mound for the Astros. He has struck out 48 batters in 41 2/3 innings in seven starts this year, posting a 2.16 ERA. He’s allowed two or fewer runs in five of his seven starts this year. The Astros are 4-3 in games he’s started.

How Texas Rangers & Houston Astros Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Astros are 37-18 in their last 55 games following a win.

Rangers are 9-23 in their last 32 after allowing 5 runs or more in their previous game.

Against The Spread Selection: Houston Astros

My reason for the pick :

The Astros will be able to pick up an easy win at home against the Rangers, as the Astros will be looking to tighten up the screws and go on a mean winning streak. The Rangers won’t be able to keep up with Springer who has been on fire as of late and with Morton pitching, it’s a guaranteed win for the Astros.

Betting trends for Texas Rangers:

  • Rangers are 5-16 in their last 21 games vs. a starter with a WHIP less than 1.15.

Betting trends for Houston Astros:

  • Astros are 21-8 in their last 29 vs. American League West.
