Pick, Prediction, & Preview:

San Francisco Giants vs Pittsburgh Pirates

Andrew McCutchen will return to PNC Park as the Giants will face off against the Pirates in 3 game series. The Pirates are 10-5 when playing at home while the Giants are 9-11 on the road this season.

San Francisco Giants's Latest Performance :

The Giants are trying to avoid a series sweep against the Phillies, they have now lost 3 straight games after winning five series in a row. The thing about baseball is that you can have a great series and in the next series you play terrible and you can’t really figure out why that is the dilemma that the Giants are currently in. The Giants are now 19-18 they are back where they started after they went on a solid stretch winning 4 games in a row. The Giants now have a losing record on the road with 9-11 losing to the Phillies nearly annihilate all their recent accomplishments. The Giants are 2-25 in this Phillies series when runners are in the scoring position something they hope they can fix when they play the Pirates because it really hurts their chances of winning baseball game considering they average almost 4 runs per game.

Brandon Belt is off to an excellent start to his 2018 season, registering a .296/.414/.522 line along with six homers and 17 RBI in 34 games. He is hoping to pick things up on the road against the Pirates after failing to score an RBI in 4 straight games. Despite the scoring dry spelled he is still able to safely reach the base 21 games in a row.

Andrew McCutchen is looking forward to his return to PNC Park. It will be his first game since he was traded. He won the 2013 National League Most Valuable Player Award with the Pirates, so I expect him to have a great game against his former team. He is batting .423 (11-for-26) during a nine-game hitting streak. This season McCutchen had a hot start to the season and he is hoping that he can turn things around when he visits his old team. He has 3 homers and 14 RBIs.

Pitching for the Giants will be Derek Holland. He allowed three runs on six hits and two walks over five frames in Tuesday’s loss to the Phillies. The left-hander has struck out close to a batter per inning this season, but he hasn’t gone beyond five innings in his last three starts and his ERA now sits at 5.66.

Pittsburgh Pirates's Latest Performance :

The Pirates have completed a series sweep against the White Sox coming back to win yet again making it their 9th comeback win of the year. They will now return home to face the Giants in a 3 game series. The Pirates are 10-5 at home this season. They are ranked 7th in scoring with 4.94 runs scored per game. They have now tied with the Brewers for second place in the NL Central and are hoping to regain the top spot with a series win against the Giants. The Pirates have mastered the ability to come back into games against weaker teams but I know for sure that it won’t work against the top teams in the Major when they match up against them.

Ellas Diaz hit an absurd base hit that allowed the Pirates to cut into the lead making 5-4, the catcher is hoping to duplicate this clutch hitting in the 9th against the Giants when it is his turn to bat. He now has 8 RBIs this season with 2 homers impressive numbers for the Pirates catcher.

Colin Moran hit a two-run homer in the 9th to secure the win another clutch performance from Rookie Colin Moran. This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Pirates after trading  Andrew McCutchen and Gerrit Cole but the Moran and the Pirates have other ideas, in the last 3 games Moran got 5 more RBIs making it 19 RBIs of the season, he is hoping to play well against the Giants as he is now the leader of this Pirates team. He is slashing .283/.369/.434 this season.

Pitching for the Pirates at home will be Chad Kuhl. He is coming off his best start of the season, a dominant outing in Milwaukee in which he struck out eight Brewers while tossing seven scoreless, one-hit innings. Kuhl held the Giants to one run on two hits over six innings last season. He has an ERA of 4.12 picking up 4 wins and only dropping 2.

How San Francisco Giants & Pittsburgh Pirates Matchup.

Vegas Odds, Offshore Odds, & Odds ATS:

Pirates are 4-0 in their last 4 home games vs. a team with a winning record.

Giants are 19-45 in their last 64 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.

Against The Spread Selection: Pittsburgh Pirates

My reason for the pick :

The Pirates will ruin Andrew’s return to the Pirates as they should be able to pick up a comfortable win over the inconsistent Giants. Right now the Pirates are coming in with a mindset that they can compete with anyone in the Major because of their ability to come back and win games. The Pirates will look to do the same thing against the Giants as they will exploit the Giants weaknesses at the end of the game and go on a run then go on to secure the win at home.

Betting trends for San Francisco Giants:

  • Giants are 21-45 in their last 66 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Betting trends for Pittsburgh Pirates:

  • Pirates are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. a team with a winning record.
